"She told me not to tell you." Karin replied to me. It was the first I'd heard of it. But she continued. "It was the day after we walked our dogs; That's why I like going on walks with people. You learn a lot about them. Even before the whole Addle thing."
I walked with Karin in silence, getting completely drenched in the rain. Why did I insist on wearing a skirt today? I thought to myself. "So what else did Renae say? If you don't mind me asking of course."
Not hesitating in her response she replied, "Pretty much everything you know about Addle now." While leaping over a puddle as I walked around it. "The park is only a few blocks away." Karin added, out of habit, like a GPS system.
I had only been there a couple of times, but in fact, the park isn't really a park at all. Just a large empty rocky lot with 2-3 inches of still water and climbable trees. There wasn't really a point in us visiting this place.
It was just two weeks ago when Renae had asked me, "Maddie, have you ever seen anything weird?" At the time I was in her house while we waited for Patrick to arrive to take us to the store. "Define 'Weird' " "Like a ghost or a shadow move?" I knew the right answer to the question, we had talked about it frequently years earlier. She constantly saw shadows move, and I being the skeptic, would instantly dismiss anything that I thought I saw. But I could not bring myself to lie to Renae. No matter how much I wanted to say yes, I could not decieve her like that. Fortunately, Patrick showed up before I could answer. Karin walked in silently from the other room. "Is she the normal one?" Patrick asked referring to me. Renae grabbed her jacked before repling "Yes." I flinched at the name of normal. It is a hideous stereotype and should be used by no one. Patrick then turned to Karin, "And she's the weird one?" Once again Renae replied "Yes." Then we continued on our way.
When we finally reached the park I looked down at my black socks, which felt like they were filled with gallons of water.
