Alrighties, since I wrote all this in pencil in my real journal I want it to forever last on the interweb xd stupid pencil so here we goes!
June 3, 2007 - Wow! I need to write down what happened on the trek! Okay, I left the house at 8:20 am on Thursday morning May 31st, 2007. When I got to the Stake Center I went in and registered, they gave me a blue bracelet and told me I was in the blue company (there were red, green, and blue companies) When most everyone had arived we went into the chaple and Travis Wilkinson talked to us about how fun the trek would be and how they had put us into our families, by prayer. I got a ride up to Enterprise Reservoir with brother and sister Chamberlyn. On the way, before we had even gotten out of St. George we almost got into a car accident. (I guess Satan didn't want us to have a spiritual experience) When we arrived at the reservoir I grabbed my gunny sack and went towards the blue f** that signaled for the blue company to meet there. I was placed in the Forsyth family which we later renamed Formaster because our Ma and Pa had to look through their family history for the last name of one of their relatives to use. My brothers and sister were: Kenny, Angie, Keaton, Connor, Amanda, and Stephanie. I recognized 3 from school (Amanda, Keaton, and Stephanie) but no one else. I didn't really know those 3 either because they had been in 9th grade and I was in 8th. Connor was in 9th grade too, but I didn't recognize him lol whoops sweatdrop What funny though is that before the trek we had a stake meeting about it and a few days later at school I was sitting in one of the display boxes (sounds weird but that's what they are lol) during lunch watching people walk around the school with their friends. I recognized some from my stake and pointed 3 or them out in my mind saying I hope those guys are in my family, and sure enough the people I picked out that day were Amanda, Stephanie, and Keaton. Weird huh? As I looked around at my family I remember thing, 'I'm not going to get along with any of these people!' and I also thought 'They all know each other! I'm going to feel neglected this whole time' Although yes, there were a lot of times that I really felt out of the loop in my family on the Trek, there were also a lot of times when I really felt like I fit in too. After playing a getting to know you game we made our family sign and stuck it to the back of our hand cart. When all of our stuff was in the handcart and tied down, the blue company started going. I believe that it was Connor and Kenny that were in the front at the very beginning. I know it was definitely Kenny though because he was in the front pulling almost the entire time we were Trekking. Now looking back I can think of so many ways I could have pushed myself so I would have been able to push harder up those hills and pulled harder down them. After getting up the first very small hill, we got our chicken. We didn't have to go more than 20 feet before we decided to name her Nugget. We even had her trained to respond to her name by the next morning. The first hill in our series of hills was pretty small, we went down it, then one a little bigger appeared. That sequence probably went on at least 7-10 times. Then we got to one that was just up, up, up, it wasn't extremely steep but it was long. Then suddenly it dropped. It was a very steep hill, and we had to go down it. I thought we were going to die, but we took it as slow as we could and made it to the bottom. When we got to the rest of our company we stopped for a while then went up a small but steep hill, this one also dropped but it was more dangerous than the last. But we also Got-R-Done. (as our family motto states) At the bottom of that hill we were all very thirsty so we stopped for water. As we were doing that though, the family behind us was getting closer. I guess Kenny and Connor didn't really like that, so they put up their water and made a run for it with no warning. We were left behind but luckily we all had had time to put our water away. They ran for about 50 yards and then came upon a small 6 or 7 foot high hill it was probably about a 70 or 75 degree angle. They ran even faster at the hill. When the feet of my two brothers were at the top of the hill I remember seeing them start to slip. When I saw that I ran as fast as I could to catch up to them. I did, and pushed as hard as I could, then Stephanie came to push, then Amanda, and we got them over the hill. As this was happening Keaton was watching a few feet away because he couldn't get in to help. When Kenny and Connor were up the hill they started to walk faster and I was left behind with Ma, Pa, and Keaton. I was walking a head of them for a while when Keaton caught up, gave me a hug, and said "good job" It was nice to get a hug, I mean, I'm all for them and stuff but that one hug made me feel happy and horrible at the same time because, (I know this wasn't his intention) it really made me feel more like a baby than I had been feeling before since I was the youngest in my family at 13, a little more than a month shy of 14. Soon we came upon a cave where we were all stopping for lunch, there were 2 more hills like the last that we had to go up so we could park the handcarts. Our lunch consisted of an orange and a plane bagel. It had never tasted so good, it was hard to eat though because I wasn't hungry at all! We finally got going again and we went up a hill, when we got to the top, we had a company meeting and we sang "Edelweiss" from the Sound of Music. Here are the lyrics: "Edelweiss, Edelweiss, Ev'ry morning you great me. Small and White, Clean and bright, you look happy to meet me. Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow, Bloom and Grow forever. Edelweiss, Edelweiss, Bless my home land forever. Edelweiss are a white pure little flower that just pop up from under the snow every winter despite their size. They're strong and live in the harsh cold. Our Company leader told us that and compared those flowers to us and how we live the gospel. we're strong in our faith and even thought the world just gets worse by the day, we chose to live by that gospel and get up past all the worldly things.
This journal entry is really long so I'll finish typing it up another day! hope you enjoyed hearing about this small part of my venture 3nodding
