Ever since Travis Matthews can remember, he's lived in space on a deep space battle ship called the Viper . He's learned how to pilot an attack ship, use weapons, and command a ready crew (but what captian's son would know how to do that). So when a freak accident causes half of the crew to die, it's up to Travis to take command of the Viper and get it back to Earth. But the universe is vast and getting the crew back to Earth isn't gonna be so easy. Especially with a band of space pirates chasing them, a faulty hyperdrive powering the ship, an untrained group of fighter pilots, and resources slowly dwindling.
