After Hatter's mother and father disappeared when Hatter was 2, March asked the king, if it was okay for him to stay and live with his family, and the king allowed it. With this in mind, this is why Hatter doesn't know he's related to the Hearts. He has a huge crush on the white rabbit but won't admit to it.
