Before then there was nothing,
But the strange sullen calm of peace.
The twitter of birds echoed ambiance,
but now nothing rings through these streets.
Even the fruits of trees have faded,
And in its stead they offer up the sound,
of wind whistling through the leaves,
but not a single one reaches the ground.
Before then there was nothing,
But a feeling of happiness within my heart.
I was content and therefore at peace,
And so the world began falling apart.
I felt something strange that night,
Like hot water over my skin.
Down my chest and over my ribs,
A fluid crimson and thin.
So I laid myself down to sleep,
after the war had swallowed my soul.
Peace was here yesterday,
But tomorrow would I feel whole?
Those brief moments of terror,
When I was in tone with the fray,
A moment of shock and excitement,
Suddenly turned to gray,
A sense of loss washed over me,
As though a part of me had died.
I held her within fragile hands,
And made a home for it inside.
But strange as it may seem,
For all the effort that I once made,
The reason for my destruction,
Was that my hope began to fade.
My faith in the dreams that came,
The ones that told me of her love,
That fell like moonbeams through the curtains,
As soft as the down of an ivory dove,
I could not understand the feeling,
Like a machine sparking up its wires,
I was left searching for a flicker,
In a sea of open fires.
Those brief moments of torture,
I had danced with her that night.
How strange the burn that caressed me,
By the lonely morning light.
I knew that she would leave me,
It echoed through my veins.
The hope that she tore from me,
Left me wallowing in the stains.
And every now and then,
I still can hear her music playing,
And just like that I realize...
I never quite knew what she was saying.
I should have waited.
