Chapter 10~ Through A Cat's Eyes
"How are we supposed to get through this?!"

A thick, musty fog had risen up from the ground, covering everything in view, so no one could view them, much to Keru and Niina's dismay. They had planned on beating the Rooks, but with the fog, they would just stumble into the electric fence, and die, deep fried. Quickly, Keru shut the door before the fog could crawl inside the house. He sighed, slowly sinking into the nearby chair.

"Great... How are we supposed to destroy the Rooks, if we can't even see them?" Niina didn't answer, neither of them actually knew the answer anyways. They just stood and sat there in silence for a while, before a certain know-it-all voice came drifting through the hall.

"I know..." purred the voice, turning around a corner. The small black cat had a smug look on it's face, his black tail twitching back and forth, watching the humans, who were now looking at him. "I know how you can get in there..." They continued listening, but the cat seemed to have said all it wanted to, and now began to lick his paw.

Keru's eyes began twitching, this cat really got on his nerves, and before Niina could stop him, he had picked Maako up and was shaking him back and forth. "WELL? Aren't you going to tell us?!" The cat watched him calmly, despite the fact that Keru was shaking him somewhat violently.

"S-st-stop shha-kkin' meeee, n' ah'll tell youuu!" Keru stopped shaking Maako, and carefully set him down, breathing slowly to calm down, and after Maako cleared his throat, he began, "The fog is here because the Rooks now you have arrived. They fear you, they know you can defeat them, so they set it up so you won't be able to find them.

"But the Rooks made a mistake. They didn't know I was going to be here. They made another mistake as well: depending on machines. Most of the inside of their headquarters is machines, and there is a machine that creates this fog. I can see through this fog-"

"You can see through this fog?"

"Yes, that's what I just said. You didn't think I was an ordinary cat, now did you?"

"..."

"RIght. Now then, I can sneak in, turn off the fog, perhaps, if I get something nice, I'll shut down the electricity on the fence as well, and then you'll be able to take it from there."

"What will it take for you to turn of the electricity?"

"Fish."

"Fish?"

"Fish. And perhaps some nice, little birds as well. Mice if you could get it. Good food. Good food."

Niina giggled. "The way to your heart is through your stomach, eh?"

"Yep." The cat nodded, that smug smile still on his face. "Well, do we have a deal?"

Keru and Niina looked at each other, looked at Maako, looked at each other again, then back at Maako, saying, "Yep!"

And so, they opened the door, sending the small black cat out into the fog, and as soon as the cat ad dissolved into the fog, they closed the door, heading into the kitchen in search of non-rancid fish.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Small black ears twitched and turned as the small pick nose sniffed the air, seeming to take on a life of it's own, moving so fast. Bright yellow eyes carefully watched everywhere around the small cat as he slowly padded out into the empty streets. The buildings, which had once looked so beautiful and majestic, yet somewhat dangerous, now looked even more dangerous, and haunting, the mist clinging off of it like clotted blood to skin. Nobody was outside, everyone hid inside their houses, the cat's ears could hear children crying out to their mommies, and the worried conversations of women. It seemed only the men were silent, though most of the men weren't even inside their houses. They were trapped inside the gigantic headquarters, either as prisoners or recruits. The Rooks always stole young men from the town they settled in, as new meat for their army.
'Disgusting.' the cat said inside his mind as he nimbly leapt over a concrete sidewalk, up to the Rook's headquarters' fence. He began digging a hole, he knew from experience that the Rook's didn't expect anybody to come under their fence, not knowing that Maako had done so many a time. It took him about five minutes, but he finally got all the way under the fence, and emerged, shaking dirt from his fur.
"I'll expect a good brushing after this as well..." he muttered, walking over to a small box. Taking out one of his claws, he picked the lock on it, and the box sprung open. "Pish. Amateurs..." he muttered, carefully selecting one of the many wires that was inside the box, and cleanly slicing it open with his claw. He saw splutters coming out from the fence, until it seemed to dullen even more than what the fog made it seem. Smirking in triumph, he set off towards the actual building, heading towards where they kept the fog machine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Niina! Look! The fog's disappearing!" Keru and Niina rushed to the window, watching as the fog slowly shrank away, then hurried towards the door, where they were sure Maako would appear soon. And they were right. A few seconds after the door had been fully opened, a small black cat stalked in, jumped up onto the coffee table, and began licking his fur.

"Maako?" Niina said, bending down so she could look into the cat's eyes, "Did you get rid of the electricity?"

The cat stopped licking itself to look up at Niina, then said, "Yes. It's gone, though they might find out about it in a few hours. You may want to hurry. Oh, and before that-" But Maako was not able to finish his sentence, as Niina and Keru had rushed out the door, heading towards the Rooks headquarters. Maako sighed, then continued licking his fur, murmuring, "Well.. expect more attention when this is over..."
