Chapter 1: The Beginning
Centuries ago there was a huge war between four countries, the Country of the Phoenix, the Country of the Ocean, the Country of Earth, Country of Wind, and the Country of the Warrior. Each country has a hero who is the leader of that country, also known as their number 1. However, we start here in a neutral country right in the middle of the war. Here Kai is learning the techniques he needs to master swordsmanship and go to the Country of the Phoenix. In the neutral country the children practice to join the army of a country. The four countries then recruit them into their army.
Hey! Kai wait up. What are you doing out here?
Kai turned around. He had dirty blonde hair that went down to his nose. His eyes were red and blue.
I always come this way Zach, said Kai.
Zach was Kai’s best friend. He had black hair, but you could never see half of his face since a hood covered it. He was the fastest person Kai knew. They both wanted to join the army of the Country of the Phoenix. Zach’s specialty because of his speed was using knives and daggers. Kai on the other hand liked to use short swords.
Hey Zach do you want to practice today?
All right what is the score so far.
38 to 36 my lead, said Kai.
Well then I’ll have to catch up, said Zach.
Zach suddenly disappeared. Kai took out his sword and blocked where Zach’s weapon suddenly appeared. He felt his sword hit Zach’s dagger. That won’t work anymore, Kai said. I know, said Zach. Kai turned around a knife was heading straight at him.
Fire erupted, Zach was thrown backward and the knife was knocked down.
What was that, asked Zach.
Its something new I picked up, said Kai.
Well whatever it was it knocked the breath out of me, said Zach.
Oh, man, were going to be late for school, hurry up Zach.

Attention! Students today we have four scouts from each country, said the teacher.
Hey, who do you think is going to the Country of the Ocean, said Kai?
I don’t know, probably Sarah, John, and Karin.
The day went on as the scouts picked their candidates. Finally the Country of the Phoenix scout stood up. We have only chosen five candidates. Kai, Amaya, Nami, Zach, and Max.
Amaya, who most people called May, was a wave sword specialist. She was best known for her acrobatics skill. She had dark hair with red at the end and blue eyes. Most of the class liked her. Max was the best in school with a long sword. He wore a long coat that seemed to make his sword disappear when he sheathed it. When you looked at him, you couldn’t see any hint of where the sword might be. He had violet eyes that seemed to shine when you looked at them. His hair was a blonde that seemed to go everywhere. He was for the most part a quiet person. One of the reasons for his skill was because of his rare sword. No one knew why but it seemed to be stronger than everyone else’s weapon. It was completely black. Also no one really knew any of his skill since he never fought anyone, but he seemed to pass the tests. Kai liked Max as a friend but Zach didn’t. They would always argue with each other. They would have to get along though since they were in the same regiment. Nami had blonde hair and red eyes. She probably would be tied with Max using a long sword but since his was better everyone thought that he would win. The rest of the scouts picked their recruits.
That’s it for class, said the teacher.

Kai and Zach started to head home.
Why! Why! WHY!
What is it, said Kai
Out of all the people, why did Max have to get stuck with us? I mean anyone but him
would have been fine by me.
Quit your complaining I would think Max could really help us when we need it.
Yea that’s what you think, said Zach
They started to walk down a street when Kai glanced over and saw someone melt into the shadows.
Hey Zach there some people following us, said Kai.
Really, this should be fun.
Zach disappeared.
The others started to run forward.
Kai pulled out his swords.
One of them glowed red while the other glowed blue.
Kai started to run to one of the groups that were headed toward him. He jumped and came down, knocking some of the attackers off their feet. He looked around just in time to see Zach kick someone and disappear right before someone hit him with his sword.
Seems like were doing good, said Kai.
Kai, watch out!
Kai turned around just in time to see five people jump at him. All of a sudden Max appeared holding all five swords back against his one. Kai didn’t think anyone else besides Zach could move that fast. There was a flash all five of the attackers went flying back. Kai had just gotten up when Zach finished dealing with the rest of the attackers.
Kai are you alright, said Zach
Yeah I’m fine.
Kai turned back around and Max was gone.
Dang I hate that guy, said Zach
Kai didn’t hear him. The only thing he was thinking was why they had been ambushed and what Max had done.
