Field Notes, Observations and General Ponderings
Exciting times, my friends.

So I'm finally sort of starting to get used to this place. My little wee avatar is properly dressed (and looking pretty swanky if I do say so myself. I feel inclined to believe that Vickie Becks would approve), I'm searching for some good guilds to join (a little bit on writing and some KH for good measure) and I've got a wish list happening. I play the games like it's my job (they help me to procrastinate like a pro) and I wander the towns aimlessly and watch all the drama go down. Oh the sweet safety of anonymity that comes with a user name and avatar.

In fact, I suppose one of the biggest reasons I keep this up is because the anthropologist in me is piqued by it all! I had one young Gaian strike up a conversation with me one evening and it ended as follows:

le dude: so do u have a bf
moi: I do.
le dude: well ******** u then

I replied with an obligatory "ha ha!" and we promptly parted ways. I realized then that this was going to be a very interesting experience. I almost want to convince some friends to join up here for the sheer sake of being able to have someone to ponder all of this with! I've never seen so many examples of desperate and hormonal ploys for anonymous intimacy in one place before. Then again, maybe it's just the uber-adorable avatars.

What I've also come to very quickly realize is the very obvious fact that I am among what I can only assume to be the perhaps significantly smaller "older crowd" here on Gaia. Now, don't misunderstand me: the handful of users who have decided to make me their friends are all delightful. They have been very friendly and I appreciate that we were able to chat about something other than a potential RISKAY cyber encounter (ah wink wink). However, these darlings are also an average of 10 years younger than me. It's cool though, I see the way it is.

Still, I'm interested in finding some users closer in age to talk to. I think it would be interesting to see how others in my bracket are thriving around here (or perhaps not), what they're into and why they stay.

Aaaaand now my journal just became a fieldwork notebook. I'm so undergrad it hurts.
