Confessions of a Techie
my random thoughts and crap
Now that I've gotten into a debate involving the new MC's, I feel compelled to post this:
ok, since I was apparently ignored the last time, let me make something abundantly clear. KIDS SEE CARTOONS EVERY DAY THAT HAVE MORE VIOLENCE IN THEM THAN ANY GROUPING OF ITEMS ON GAIA. Sorry for the caps-lock, but it was necessary. look at Tom and Jerry for example, Tom and/or Jerry is frequently burned, blown up, shot, stabbed with a sword, falls out of third story windows, off buildings, breaks through glass, is hit with an anvil/piano/car/I-Beam, covered in cement, has entire houses fall on top of them, drowns, is attacked by sharks, mauled by dogs, etc. and yet KIDS WHO ARE FIVE YEARS OLD AND YOUNGER ARE WATCHING THIS DAILY! Guns, or any other form of weapon on an internet site that most kids (READ: A KID IS ANYONE UNDER TWELVE YEARS OF AGE) should NOT LEGALLY HAVE ACCESS TO. To add to that, we have items on here that are covered in blood and can and do cause more harm to people every year than guns do.
In Florida alone, more than 40,000 people are injured by chain saws each year, as compared to three point six people dieing in the US from firearms per 100,000 populace*, which averages to
ten thousand, one hundred and thirty-one point one eight people, in the year 2000**

So, law of averages is that for every five people injured in some form of accident, one person will die as a result. Taking that, we divide forty-thousand by five and get eight thousand people dieing from chainsaw related accidents IN ONE STATE. multiply by fifty(assuming average is the same for all states, and you get four hundred thousand people dieing due to chainsaw-related accidents. Granted, that's a liberal average, but still, in one country, four hundred thousand people due to improper use of a tool, versus ten thousand with a gun. Tell me, which seems more dangerous now?
