A story of mules :D (unfinished!)(updated!)
It was midday when a cry was heard in an alley way, it was a girl of about 14 years of age. Most people ignored the sobs of this young lady for it was a time of great need. For you see their Kingdom was in the midst of a horrible famine --- they had no time to bother with such a distraction.

The girl was about to break out another round of tears when she heard footsteps coming towards her. Soon, she heard a voice saying, "What do we have here? I lovely young lady shedding tears? What, may I ask, caused you such grief?"

She looks up to see a boy smiling at her.
She quickly wiped off some of her tears and said, "It's this famine... Prices are so high that my family can't afford a decent meal. Things have been going so bad that my little sister is ill..." She started to shed more tears.

"There, there now..." The boy said as he knelt down beside her. Now, the girl could see the stranger a bit more clearly. He was a bit older than her, maybe 16, with brown hair and kind blue eyes. "Here," he said. The girl's eyes widened for as soon as he had said the word a rose appeared in his hand as if by magic. "Go on take it. It has no thorns." She took it and nodded. The boy smiled. A new voice sounded.

"Fendrin... Are you finish with your good deed yet?" An impatient voice said. The girl stretched a bit to see where the voice had came from. The sun glared in her eyes for a second but once her eyes adjusted she saw another boy. This one had red hair. His other features were hidden from her view by black cape. Before she had a better view, the boy that had given her the rose got up and said, "I'll be right there HK." Before leaving, the boy gave the girl a bow that left her blushing.

Though still baffled about who those two were, the girl looked her floral present. When her eyes gazed upon where the flower had been, she began to cry once again. This time, these were tears of joy. The flower had turned into a pouch filled with gold coins.

She got up and tried to run after the strangers but when she got to the street she couldn't see them. She let a whisper slip out of her lips...

Thank you....

"You always have to be the hero, don't you," commented HK as he and Fendrin swiftly jumped from rooftop to rooftop. "But that's our job isn't it?" replied Fendrin. "Protecting the smile of the people in our Lord's kingdom?" HK sighed. There was no arguing with Fendrin when it came to their job.

~~~~ At the castle's garden ~~~~
"My loyal knights I bid thee welcome."
"We are honored to be graced with thy presence, My Lord," greeted Kylan (or HK) as he bowed down. He and Fendrin were now in the midst of their Lord and Commander, Lord Faris. "I assumed you have summoned us not to enjoy tea in your garden, sire?" asked Fendrin. Kylan quickly gave him a hit on his side to warn Fendrin of his manners.
"It's alright, Sir Kylan," Faris said as he put down his cup of tea. "We are all friends here."
"With all due respect, your highness. We have all grown out of our childhood days since we took up our respective duties to the Kingdom."
"I am well aware of that but if one does not have friends, he does not have loyal men," said Faris bidding them to stand.
"Though your words ring true, I am afraid to say Kylan is right. I apologize for my poor etiquette," said Fendrin.
"It is fine."
"Fendrin, please protect this area from unwanted ears," said Faris with a voice that held power.
"As you wish..."
Then, Fendrin said something to himself and raised his hand. A glow of light was seen. Fendrin had finished casting his spell within a moment.
"Now that has been settled..." Faris said after confirming the strength of the force field. "I've missed you two so much lately!" he said out of character almost as quickly as Fendrin's spell. "We missed you too!" answered Fendrin trying to hold back an urge to hug his long time friend. "Growing up has its pains. We knew this," Kylan said in a matter-of-fact way. A silence ensued between the three friends as they remember their childhood together. Fendrin was the first to break the silence.
"Who would have known Faris would become High Lord?"
"Yes, who would have imagine a fearless kid who got his friends into trouble every time they met? " added Kylan with a flicker of amusement in his eyes.
"And who would have guessed Fendrin would grow up to be so skill in the art of magic?" nodded Faris. "Was there any doubt?" Fendrin said. "Yes," Kylan answered imediately. "HEY?!" "Just kidding, just kidding!" laughed Kylan. "But you gotta admit you weren't always in control of your power." "I second that!" exclaimed Faris. "I was always the victim of those kinds of "accidents."
They laughed for a few more minutes until Kylan reopened the situation at hand.
