Chapter 10

Shadow Creature

The red eyes seemed to get larger as Silver continued to stare into them. He wanted to do something, like even just move. But he was rooted to the spot with fear and curiosity. The creature growled again, and then suddenly disappeared! It took a few seconds for Silver to realize what just happened. But then he quickly jumped over to the tree Shadow was sleeping in, and woke her up. "Uh... is it morning already?" asked Shadow drousily, with her eyes still half closed. "No! its still night, but I've gotta tell you what I just saw!" shouted Silver. At this Shadow immediatly sat up, eager to hear what Silver had to say. So he explained to Shadow what he saw. "Really? should we wake the others then?" asked Shadow a bit shocked. "No, but lets stay awake, and keep watch in case it comes back," said Silver. "Ok," said Shadow, as she looked around in the dark for anything suspicious. So Shadow and Silver stayed up all night on watch for the red eyes.

The sun was beggining to rise as Shadow let out a yawn. She was very tired from being up all night. "Uh... I feel horrible from no sleep..." yawned Shadow, as she layed down. "I think I'm just gonna take a quick nap..." she said, so she closed her eyes and drifted off. Silver on the other hand, was still wide awake. After what he saw, he couldn't go to sleep if he tried. It was as if the eyes were burned into his memory. Everytime he closed his eyes, he could still see them. Even thinking about them sent cold shivers down his spin. Soon he heard someone waking up down below. It was Crystal. "Morning Crystal," he called down. Crystal looked around to see who called her name. "Up here," said Silver, waving down at her. She looked up, "oh, hey Silver, get a good nights sleep?" "Uh... not really," he said, "why is that?" asked Crystal. "Just couldn't sleep," said Silver. For a while Crystal and Silver were the only two awake. Then Pearl and Rain woke up. Now Shadow was the only one still asleep. Everyone sat and talked for a bit. Then after a while they woke up Shadow. Though she was very reluctent to move.

As they walked to the mountain's base, it bagan to lightly rain. "Should we be concerned about the rain at all?" asked Crystal. "Only if it begins to rain harder," said Shadow. They began to walk up the mountain trail. But then it started pouring rain. "Now we should be worried, lets head back to the forest. Its too dangerous to continue up the mountain in this weather," said Shadow. So they all dashed for the forest for cover. Once they were back to where they started, they found a dry patch of grass and sat down. Though Shadow and Silver decided to sit in a nearby tree instead. "Ugh, I hate rain," said Pearl, "ouch, what did I ever do to you?" asked Rain jokingly. "I don't mean you, I love you too much to hate you," said Pearl giggling, and giving Rain a kiss on the cheek. Rain gave her a hug, and she rested her head on his shoulder. The rain was getting even heavier, thunder could be heard, and it was getting a bit darker. "Great... now I'm getting even wetter," complained Crystal, as she stood up. "Its perfectly dry up here," said Shadow. "Really? well good, make some room up there for me then," said Crystal as she climbed up to where Shadow and Silver where sitting. "We're coming up too," said Rain, as he and Pearl climbed up. Now they were all sitting in the tree. Shadow and Silver moved up higher, while Crystal, Pearl, and Rain stayed where they were. "I'm kinda tired now," yawned Pearl. "Me too," said Crystal, "ya, same here," said Rain. Pearl leaned on Rain, and he leaned back. Crystal just lied down on the branch she was on. Soon the three of them were asleep. Shadow and Silver were still wide awake though. "I wonder why they suddenly got so sleepy," said Shadow, "I'm still wide awake." "Yeah, me too," said Silver. It started to get even darker, almost like night. In the forest, it was only just light enough to see. "This isn't natural," said Shadow, "it wouldn't get this dark at noon, even during a thunderstorm... I'm getting a bit creeped out by this." "Your right... and same here," said Silver.

"By the way, have you been hearing anything since we came here?" asked Shadow. "Yeah, I've been hearing faint rustling sounds nearby," said Silver. "Same here, I just didn't want to say anything, I didn't want to scare the others or have them worry." "You don't think it could be..." "I've got a feeling it could be just that." Now the darkness was even heavier, they could barely see eachother. Suddenly, a deep growl came from below. Shadow and Silver looked down, and saw two blood red eyes looking up at them. Both of them felt shivers go down their spines. But Shadow acted immediatly by transforming into her half-dragon form. Silver on the other hand was frozen, just like the first time he saw those eyes. Shadow whispered to Silver, but he couldn't hear what it was. He was too focused on the eyes. Then Shadow lunged down at the eyes with her claws. She felt that she sliced something. There was a yelp of pain, and then Shadow was knocked down. She tried to get back up, but was knocked down again. Something struck her cheek, and she could taste blood. She kept trying to fight back, but either struck nothing but air, or was knocked down. Silver was still in the tree, motionless. He just couldn't bring himself to move. "Com'mon! do something! help Shadow!" he thought, "I can't just leave her by herself. She's getting beat down there! Jump... now!" but he still didn't move, "ok.... now!" still he did nothing. "Its like I'm paralyzed or something, why can't I move!" Shadow was still fighting down below with the shadow creature. As she got knocked down again, she blew a fireball. It was a blind-fire, but it still hit dead on. She heard a loud yelp, it sounded like the creature was in great pain this time. "Yes, now I've got it," thought Shadow. She used this time to attack it more. She slashed at it. Now she felt blood on her hands. As she slashed at it again, it grabbed hold of her arm. She was thrown down hard, and was pinned to the ground. Shadow couldn't move, and began to panick. "Damnit! now what am I gonna do," she thought. She was about to spit another fireball at it when she felt a large impact on her head. Everything went black, and she passed out.

Silver watched this happen, and fury took over him. He transformed into half-dragon and threw himself on the shadow creature. He could feel adrenilan pumping through his veins. He began to slash at it relentlessly. The creature was praticaly screaming in pain. But that didn't stop Silver, he just kept attacking it. It tried fighting back, but Silver's fury was too much for it. Silver punched it hard to the ground. All was quite, even the rain and thunder stopped. The darkness lifted, and the shadow creature was visable. It looked like a strange, mutated wolf. It was black as night, had spikey fur and was as big as a cow. It was covered in large gashes, and the fur on it's head was burnt. It let out a howl of pain, and went limp. It's body began to disinigrate, and soon was completely gone, as if it was never there. This shocked Silver a bit, but the remembered that Shadow was hurt. He went over to her. She was still in her half-dragon form and was still uncouncious. He tried shaking her, but she was still under. He looked around for something to possibly wake her up.

He saw a nearby puddle of water. So he cupped his hands, and dipped them in the water. Then he splashed it on Shadow's face. She opened her eyes, and sat up immediatly. "Hu? What happened? Why is it light?" asked Shadow franticly, very confused as to what happened. "Its okay Shadow, the creature is gone, along with the storm," said Silver looking to the now clear sky. "Its gone?" asked Shadow, "yes, I finished it off," said Silver. "Oh wow," said Shadow impressed. Then Shadow noticed she was still half-dragon. So she transformed back, as did Silver. Nearby they both heard their friends waking up. So they went back to the tree where they were. "Hey guys," said Crystal, as she waved to them. "Hey Crystal," said Shadow, as she waved back. "Should we tell them what happened?" whispered Silver to Shadow. "Lets not, no need to worry them," whispered back Shadow. As Shadow and Silver approached the tree, Crystal, Pearl, and Rain were climbing down. "Shall we try again for the mountain?" asked Rain. "No, it'll still be slick, we'll have to wait till tomorrow," said Shadow. "But what are we gonna do till then?" asked Pearl. "I don't know, explore?" suggested Shadow. "Sounds good to me," said Silver, "I agree," said Rain. "Sure," said Crystal and Pearl. "Alright then, lets get going," said Shadow. So they all headed further into the forest to explore...
