So I hear Gaia is removing valuable items from banned accounts and re-releasing them into the marketplace. I have mixed opinions about this. I've seen several fishing bots try to disguise themselves by creating "normal" avatars, that is, ones not wearing starter clothes. Sometimes they'll even wear MCs. It would be a shame for one of them to get banned and for that MC to be forever out of the market. Inflation seems to be a big problem on this site, and at first, this seems like an easy way to fight it. But the more I think about it, the less I like it.
What scares me even more is the increasing number of innocent bannings. Let's say that I sell something in the marketplace, and the buyer buys it with botted gold. In that case, it's likely that the ban-hammer will come after me, since I'm the one who received the botted gold. What exactly I'm supposed to do to prevent this from happening, I don't know. My inventory is worth nearly three quarters of a million gold right now, and I can't tell you how much it would suck to have that taken away from me because someone ELSE wronged me, especially when I'm sinking real money into the site.
I realize that when someone pays for an MC with real money (through the site), the money is essentially a donation. The items that we purchase are still the property of Gaia, and therefore they have the right to do whatever they see fit with them. If they want to remove every MC ever released from the Gaian market, so that NOBODY can have MCs, then they have the right to do that. But if they're going to expect us users to donate money to keep them running, they at least ought to treat us with a little more respect than that.
