To all of you out there that smoke or know people who smoke:
Holly and I went to lunch at Shane's today. On our way back, right before you get to the bridge on 138, we noticed a fire on the side of the road from where someone had thrown a cigarette butt out their car window.
In the time it took to ride to the building on the corner and back, the spot was ten times the size it had been. Luckily, other motorists had noticed and there were already several people attempting to put out the flames. Holly and I had only two full water bottles but it was something. The fire was put out, and everyone went about their way.
But who's going to stop and put it out at 3 AM in the morning when someone tosses one out the window and continues on?
The point I'm making: This drought is out of hand and conditions are PERFECT for a fire to be spread. Especially today with how windy it was. It took absolutely nothing for that fire to get started from nothing but a cherry and a filter. I live not more than two minutes from where it started and it gave me the biggest scare I've had in awhile.
Forward this on what you will do . But please, please use caution (and your brain) when it comes to things like this.
