Please Don't Think Any Less of Me...XD
I found a few tidbits that I wrote in a creative writing class during my senior year of high school. I will admit that when writing these, I didn't try too hard...

The first one was a free write where I pretty much had twenty minutes to write off the top of my head. The second was a directed write--there were rules that we had to follow for writing it, but I can't remember them. The reason why these were typed was because I wanted to include them in my portfolio for the class...

And, the only edits I made to these before posting was to seperate the paragrahs...

Free Write #6: A Tragedy of Frogs
Once upon a time there was a little frog that lost his way. Actually, the young frog didn’t really have anywhere to go, as he had just become a frog after spending many long weeks as a tadpole swimming about a giant pond with other tadpoles. It was just yesterday that Bob, which was the new frog’s name, became a frog. Now he was left with the difficult decision of determining what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.

Well, one night, while diligently searching for a purpose in life, Bob happened upon a frog that was making a horrible noise. Bob was rather curious as to why the frog was making such a noise, so he decided to ask, “What on earth are you doing?”

“I’m croaking,” said the strange frog.

“Why?” asked Bob.

“I’m croaking so I can find my soul mate.”

Bob was thus compelled to find his own soul mate and soon found himself aimlessly swimming about the pond until he discovered a small island in the middle. On the far end of the island there was a big moss covered rock. Bob hopped across the soft muddy shores of the island and perched himself on the mossy rock beneath the moonlight. He then croaked a tune of his own creation in hopes of attracting the perfect female.

Night after relentless night Bob croaked his song. Then, on one particularly beautiful night, a lovely she-frog came swimming out of the pond. Her name was Betty and she quickly introduced herself to Bob. Then she told him the tale of how she heard Bob croaking his beautiful song from afar. She said the instant she heard Bob’s croak, she knew that he, and he alone, was her soul mate.

To Bob, Betty was love at first sight. All night long Bob and Betty would swim and jump and eat bugs. Life was good for them. In fact, Bob and Betty were so happy together that Bob decided that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Betty. Unfortunately, he was having a hard time expressing his intentions to her. She was just so beautiful, that whenever Bob tried to talk to her, all he could do was marvel in her frog-beauty.

One day, Bob decided he couldn’t wait any longer. After searching far and wide, Bob found what he was looking for: the perfect bug to give to Betty as a token of their engagement. Bob leaped extra high as he went to find Betty; he was so happy.

Suddenly, Bob came upon the most horrendous sight. His beloved Betty lie helpless within the clamped jaws of a snake. “Help!” she cried. Then Bob did something stupid and brave. He attacked the snake, desperate to save his love. Fortunately, the snake dropped Betty and hissed at Bob before mortally wounding him. Just before the snake was about to devour poor Bob and Betty, an eagle came soaring out of the sky and picked up the snake, carrying it far away.

Then, as Bob and Betty lie dying on the ground, they professed their undying love for each other. Then they died.

The End!

Um, yeah... *twitch*

Directed Write
The old steel door lurched open with a speed I had not expected for technology so old. The low hum that suddenly filled my ears told me that I was getting closer to my goal: the power chamber. Of course, on an old cargo ship such as this, everything was potentially deceiving. I couldn’t be sure of anything on this ship, especially since I found the vessel floating around the bowels of space where it had presumably spent the last century or so of its existence as a floating treasure house. I was just about to step into the room before me when I heard a sound similar to that of screeching metal. I had only heard that sound once before, and I was immediately filled with fear and dread.

I had to strain my eyes to see in the small room I had just entered; I was too scared to turn on my torch. I didn’t want it to see me. Unfortunately, it was already too late to avoid confrontation, as I stole a glimpse of quick and fluid movements through the shadowy blanket that filled the room. I remained silent and still as I desperately clung to the hope that the creature would not detect my presence.

I began to hold my breath in quiet anticipation as the creature (which stood as tall as I) rapidly slurked* about the room and finally came to a halt with its slimy face just a few inches from my very sweaty one. Suddenly, I could see its catlike silver eyes as they grew bright. I felt myself slip away into the hypnotic trance that the creature was well known for invoking. I could literally see my life passing before my eyes as the creature opened my mind like a book. My head began to hurt as the creature pried itself deeper into my memories; it even found its way into memories that I had forgotten.

Suddenly, as quickly as the creature had latched onto my mind, it let go and I collapsed to the ground, clutching my head in a vain attempt to subdue the headache that was dominating my mind. I saw but a flash of silver as the creature slurked away, leaving me to my own devices. As I lay on the floor, a wave of relief flooded over me.

Suddenly, I felt as though I was an ancient who had partook in a dangerous ancient rite and passed with flying colors. The creature had pried its mind into my own and determined that for some reason or another, I was worthy enough to continue about my existence. I rolled onto my back and stared up at a black ceiling. A feeling of invincibility coursed through my veins. I had encountered a creature that could have struck me down with a blink of an eye, and it let me live. I lived.

The End

* I imagine slurking is a sort of movement that can be fast or slow, yet deceitful. When something is slurking, you don’t really know where it is.

I really never wanted these to ever see the light of day again... rofl

OMGGGGGGG HOW HORRIBLE!! Those poor frogs!! What is with you and killing innocent little animals? *flashbacks to road-kill week*

As for the second: Treasure Planet for the win? xd

But you know what--I definitely don't think any less of you. All right, that frog one was a bit much... But you weren't being serious in that were you? I can't imagine that simplistic style being all your were capable of, given the generally improved latter...

I should drag up some of the poetry and stories I was writing in high school. You would just CRY at how terrible they are. At least yours are primarily correct in the grammar department!

Ha! I LOVE the frog one. It just seems like something you'd write, for some reason.

I think I took that class, though not while you were in it. That second piece of writing sounds like one of the assignments we had in my high school creative writing class. There was a direction for each paragraph, I don't remember all of them. I think the first one was to create a sense of foreboding or something, and the last one had to resolve whatever had happened. Sound familiar?

Seriously though, I love the frog story... heart

biggrin Frog story for the win!

As for the other one, though, okay, the writing may be a little unpolished--but that was really a pretty nice little plot for something five paragraphs long... I just don't think I ever engage my brain that much when I'm writing for school XD
