I
It was a beautiful day in the forests of the wilderness. A lone elf clothed in leather traveling clothes walked the woods. You could tell she was a elf, from her slightly pointed ears, her slightly tilted eyebrows, and the way she moved so gracefully through the woods. She paused for a moment as her elven ears straining to hear anything other then the natural sounds of bird’s chirping and the slight sound of the wind. A faint ray of sunlight shined through the leafy canopy above, and made her black ebony hair shine slightly, it was in down past her shoulders, neatly combed and straight. Her green eyes scanned the brush and ground for any signs of tracks. She went down to one knee and put a hand to the ground, feeling it for any imprints. She sighed and stood back up her Ash longbow strung and ready to fire.
Meisha Alanna was her name, she did live in the elven capital, Eventine, which was in the heart of the southern forests. She was out for one of her monthly hunting trips. She liked to leave the capital every now and then and just relax in the wilderness. Normally her cousin, Cespen, would join her, but he was busy with the military, they were doing a exercise this month, so he couldn’t leave. It was fine, she had been out in the wilderness many times before, she would be fine. She sighed to herself, nothing, not a single trace of anything going through this part of the woods recently. She could usually find trace of something, but there was nothing, she had been out for half a week already, and she had found nothing, no trace of anything. She usually came to this part of the woods, and found plenty of game, but the woods this time were barren, of all life what so ever.
She had come across the path of a fellow hunter a few days back, he had no luck either. She asked him if he knew why there was not to many animals in the woods as of late. He had replied that he heard that there were more demons these days, moving from there home in the Northernland’s Wastelands. They were gathering more in groups and seeming to get more ferocious by attacking stray hunting parties. Tensions were building up, and there were more and more border fights between the Elves and Demons. But it looks like some had made it through the borders undetected and were attacking.
Meisha sighed and turned back the way she came. She knew that she might as well start the trip back to Eventine, she wasn’t going to catch anything, she knew it, but wanted to stay out longer, but it didn’t matter. So she started her walk back through the forest trail. She went on for a few hours trudging through the forest, using the rays of light from above to see her trail back through the forest, soon the sun started to set and fewer rays penetrated the forest, so she set up camp in a small clearing, using some wood from the trees, and some flint and tinder to make a fire. She cooked a few slices of meet and had some fruits for a meal, fallowed by some water from her pack. She then settled down and watched the flames as it darkened into night, and she slowly drifted off to sleep, puling out her small blanket as she did so.
It would have been around midnight when a cry into the night, which brought Meisha awake with a start, she quickly sat up and listened, to see if what she had heard was real, or if it was just from a dream she had. Then the cry came again, her blood went still, and the forest came silent. The cry sounded similar to a wolf’s cry, but…it was different, it had more of a humane tinge to it. Then a word flashed in her mind. “Demons.” She whispered aloud. She quickly threw some dirt on the fire to extinguish the last of the burning embers, and she started to get her gear together. Within minutes she was packed her Longbow stringed and had a few arrows in her spare hand, in case she needed them quickly. Then, without a sound she slipped from the clearing into the darkness and started her walk again.
Her slender form walked silently through the darkness of the forest, she used the moonlight to see the way, she would stop every now and then and listen for the cries of the demons. After half a hour, when she stopped to hear the cry, it did not sound, she sighed in relief. Must of gone off. She thought to herself. Then from behind her the cry sounded again into the night, much closer then before, and other cries from all around rose up in greeting. They had found her campsite, and her fresh sent. She instantly ran into the woods, they would catch her, they were faster then her. She kept on running, jumping over roots and side stepping trees as they came into her way. She had one chance, at the edge of the wilderness there was a small valley, at the other end, if she could get there before the demons, it had a small rise, in theory if she got there before them, she could hold position there and shoot the demons before they could get to her. That is IF she got there before they caught her. She had a objective now, so she kept on running.
The cries rose up all around her and were getting closer as she ran, ten minutes later she came to the edge of the woods, and didn’t waste any time and kept on running, and sure enough, the mountain sides were on both sides of her, and she could see the valley entrance in sight. Her legs and arms were already starting to feel heavy, and her lungs were on fire, but she kept on running, it was the difference between life and death for her. As she scrambled up the slope, she dared to look around, and she regretted it, out of the forest a few black shapes had emerged and were giving chase…wolf demons! The thought cried in her head and she drove her body past it’s normal limits.
She was almost near the spot where she planed to make her stand, but.. She could hear the demons close on her, she wouldn’t make it in time, so she drew a breath of courage and spun around, placing a arrow at the drawstring of the bow, and she pulled and released the arrow, it soared through the air, and shot the first black figure in the head, it cried out in pain and collapsed to the ground, but more soon ran past it. She quickly fired another few arrows at the next bunch and a few of her hastily fired shots missed. She could feel the fear griping her as they neared closer. She closed her eyes and dropped her bow, drawing out her small hunting knife and got ready for the charge, but something else happened.
A roar of someone behind her cried out, and she opened her eyes to take a look, green flames fired over her and impacted the nearest demon, who cried out and burnt to ashes almost instantly. Then another blast fired and another, and the front line of demons were killed, the others now seeing this stronger opponent only hesitated for a second, before they turned around and retreated into the woods.
“Are you hurt?” A strong voice said to her, and she turned around, and put a hand to her mouth in surprise, there before her, was a Sorcerer. He stood almost seven feet tall, he wore a robe that was different shades of the forest, which was decorated with leaves, flowers and other forest designs. His hood was down and even in the night, you could see his blonde short hair, and his elven features. At his side, a battle axe was strapped to his waste, and he walked towards Meisha. His hands were still smoking slightly from his magic fire he used to attack the demons. She slowly nodded in response finally. He smiled kindly at her and as he got close, he held out his hand. “I am Roxas Dendora the Sorcerer of the Forest.”
Meisha was still staring at him, before she realized that his hand was out and she quickly shook his hand and smiled at him. “Thank you so much for saving me, I thought I was a goner.”
“Ah, I thought that I had missed you as well. I have been looking everywhere for you… Meisha Alanna.” Roxas said smiling.
See, that is what I have so far, so if you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask, I would love to answer them, and any idea for a name for the story would be appreciated as well.
