She smiled as the last bit of trick-or-treaters left for the night, knowing that it was yet another Halloween that she had lived. She was begining to lose belief in that silly curse that her old doll put on her, now that fifteen years had passed and still nothing happened.
She turned from the closed door and walked up the staircase to her daughters room, ignoring the silly urge to run and hide under the covers of her own bed. She opened the door, spotting a shadow dart from the closet to the bed.
"Alexa, get back to bed," she ordered gently as she walked over to said bed. She sat on the edge and heard "Yes, mommie." muffled from underneath it. "Alexa?" She patted the lump on the bed where her daughter was, but still heard giggling under the bed. "A... Alexa?"
"I was once beautiful; your best friend, but you left me here to ROT."
The giggling grew as she backed from the bed, leaving her daughter sleeping there. Her hands shook as a lily was thrown toward her feet from under the bed.
"You loved lilies. Do you want this one? Or will it ROT too?"
Her eyes welled with tears as a tattered doll arm reached from under the bed, followed by another. A doll pulled itself from under the bed, giggling from a closed frown insanely as her head slowly looked up at the woman.
"I love you mommy; do you love me too?"
Her mouth never moved as she stood on feeble legs, turning to the girl in the bed.
"I warned you, mommy. I'm your only baby, now, and forever."
A force pushed the woman from the room and she went flying past the door as it slamed shut, followed by a shrill scream and what sounded like a dog demolishing it's long-awaited food.
"MOMMY!" her daughter yelled, before the door swung open again.
Lying in front of the blood covered bed was the doll with blood smeared on her mouth. She was still, and a smile was on her lips that hadn't been there for years.
"I love you, mommy. Do you love me too?"
Tears fell down the womans cheeks as an insane smile grew on her lips. Her entire body shook as she walked over to the doll and cradled it in her arms. "Yes, dear. I love you too,"
"That's good mommy, because we'll be together..."
"Forever." the woman said with the doll, falling to the ground and crying into the tattered dress.
