Bleed Black
My deepest thoughts, concerns, theories and writing. Leave me comments and critique on my writing? =D
Clandestine Theory
It starts with Hunter Burgan running through a forest with a paper in his hand. The paper is dropped and it reads, “Room 37, 3:33 today.” He runs into a classroom full of teenagers and grabs a black box of the table with the Sing the Sorrow logo on it, and the blackboard reads, “Nothing from nowhere.”

It then flashes to Davey Havok, who is sitting in a café. He’s writing in a small notebook, and the box is on the table. A strange woman enters the café, and sits down beside Davey, he being oblivious to her presence. She kisses him, and steals the box from the table. She smiles at him and leaves. Davey goes back to writing, but then notices that the box is gone, and he takes of after her.

Then you see Adam Carson playing cards, with the box in the pot, along with a watch, keys, a magnifying glass, a bottle of dark fluid, a white chrysanthemum, and a live black and white rabbit. Adam had “336” written on his hand. He wins the hand, takes the box and goes to leave, but the box falls apart in his hands. The other three men whom Adam was playing cards with leave with the real box smuggled under their coats.

It then goes back to the classroom, where Hunter was first seen at the beginning of the film. Now on the board, are the words, “I am no one at all.” And Jade Puget is walking through the room, only to go to the door at the front of the class and walk through it, leading to living quarters. You see him searching the quarters, going upstairs and to all of the rooms, looking through drawers, closets, nightstands and behind the bed frame and dresser. He enters the bathroom to find the bathtub filled half - way with the same black fluid as seen at Adam’s card game. He reaches in and pulls the box from its depth.
You see a hand unlock the door to the living quarters and make its way to the bathroom, were Jade is. The person unlocks the door with the keys from Adam’s card game. Sensing this, Jade takes the box and jumps into the bathtub, and he’s immersed in water, perhaps a lake.

It then goes to a beach, which you find the other three members of AFI sitting at a small round table, waiting. Jade comes walking down the beach with the box, which he places in the center of the table, and sits down in the empty chair. Adam, Davey and Hunter gather around Jade and open the box.

End. You never get to see what is or isn’t in the box.

Throughout the film, it flashes to various clocks, which in every scene, is at 3:33. At the very end, the clock reads 3:37.

Before AFI released their album, Sing the Sorrow, they released a 10" called 336. No one could figure out why, and it was a bit of a secret. All AFI would really tell was that when Sing the Sorrow came out, it would all be made clear.

They said that “336” wasn’t really important; it was just what came before. It came before Sing the Sorrow, meaning that if this 10” was 336, then Sing the Sorrow was 337, and the real mystery was what 337 meant.

When Sing the Sorrow came out, no one could figure it out, then the short film, Clandestine came out. It had the CD, DVD and a little hardcover book, like the one Davey was writing in at the café. The whole style of the booklet was faded, and the pages where worn and stained a dark wood color. As you flip through the book, you realize that some of the stains are red, and all of the stains are actually blood.

“Clandestine” actually means something secret or hidden. Esoteric also means hidden. “Miseria Cantare”, the prelude that begins the record, means “Sing the Sorrow” in Latin.

3 x 37 = 111. 777 in numerology means “god” or “perfection”. In transference, Davey wrote; “I’m, 111 less then perfection.”

777 – 111 = 666.

3 denotes divine perfection; 7 denotes spiritual perfection. In Esoteric astrology, 336 represents physical death and the event leading up to it.

There were only two songs on the 10”, 336. The lyrics to one of the songs reads, “We are all now in dying days. I gave up fighting. I’ve come to be these halos.”

337 represents the act of reincarnation.

In Chinese astrology, Davey is a rabbit. He was born on November 20th, 1975, which means that he was born in the year of the rabbit. Rabbits can not be reincarnated. They are on their last life in this world and do not have another chance.

In numerology, Davey’s life path number is 3.

In middle – eastern philosophy, they say that there are 37 deeds you must do before you can reach Nirvana, which is heaven/peace, and be done on the wheel of life.

The whole CD, Sing the Sorrow, goes in a circle. The sound at the end or the record is backwards. They end in the same beat and key as the beginning of the CD. It’s one continues loop. The music before “This Time Imperfect” is the same played forward as it is played backwards.

On the front of the album, there is a symbol of falling leaves. Falling leaves represent death, and returning to earth. The back of the album has the symbol of water. Water represents rebirth. All of the artwork in the album is in a circle, another symbol of something repeating, the cycle of life.

At the beginning of the film, Hunter is running through a forest, meaning leaves, and at the end, there all on a beach, meaning water. Life and death.

The black fluid in the bathtub relates to “Bleed Black”, the white chrysanthemum on the card table relates to The Great Disappointment.

Although each song as a whole isn’t about this, there are specific lines that corroborate this theory, in example, “Discarnate”.
“Nothing from no where, I’m no one at all.” Discarnate means being bodiless, like floating in time and space, essentially, being nowhere, nothing.

There are other questions as well, like why are The Leaving Songs out of order? Well, since the CD is one big circle, we don’t believe that it actually begins with “Miseria Cantare”. At the beginning of the film, there is breathing, just like the breathing in “Bleed Black”, which would lead us to believe that the album begins with “Bleed Black”. That would put the song as beginning after Clandestine.

There was a theory that the box at the end was just empty. The first words of “Bleed Black” are, “I am exploring the fire inside. I find it desolate.”, desolate meaning empty, so if it starts with “Bleed Black”, then the breathing at the beginning could represent life. That would put the song, “Bleed Black”, whose lyrics read, “Recreate me.”, and more importantly, “I know I died that night and I’ll never be brought back to life once again.”, referring to Davey’s connection with rabbits.

So, playing that as the first song, and going full circle around the CD, that puts The Leaving Songs in order, and ending the record with “The Leaving Song Pt. II”.

The main part of "Miseria Cantare", the lyrics are "Nothing from nowhere I'm no one at all."

In that case, it would make sense that “Miseria Cantare” would be "The Beginning ", from no where, bodiless, then comes “The Leaving Song Pt. II” whose first lyrics are, “Don’t waste your touch, you won’t feel anything.”

The Spanish in “The Leaving Song Pt. II” translates from “Yo he estado aqui muchas veces antes y regreso.” to “I have been here many times before and I return.”, and the second Spanish part translates from “Y regreso aqui otra vez y comenzo.” to “So I return here once again and I begin.” Like being reborn. The circle of birth and death and rebirth, hencing “I saw its birth, I watched it grow…” the lyrics in at the end of the song.

The secret poem in the middle of "Now the World" is read as in the three stages of life, almost as if Davey's aging through it.

The first part of the poem is read by children, slowly and soft, while the next part of the poem is read by Davey's younger brother, Mike, and the third part is read by an old man.
