Mr. Journal
Chronicles of Michael's adventures through hell along with his group of allies that he picks up along the way.
Ch1: the demon, the hunter, and the dirty sounding name
People on the street talking, murmuring of who cheated on whom with whom, and who did what to whom. It was pointless. He was not interested in their ever meaningless and mundane chatter and he had come here with a goal in mind and was going to do whatever it took. That is, if the light had not just turned green hailing a wave of automobiles, cars they called them, to crush whomever dared to venture out into the street below it. “Crazy world ain’t it?” commented a middle aged man with a prominent gray mustache

“I’ve seen worse.”

“Oh where are my manners? My name is John Miklas .What’s yours?”

“It’s Vincent, so why exactly are you talking to me again?”

“I have a granddaughter about your age working at a office downtown going to visit her myself, yep” .

“Whatever.” Vincent remarked as he crossed under the now red light.
One agitating conversation about patio furniture and a few minutes later Vincent had arrived at his destination. “Hm. Seems less grand than they said it would.” Vincent muttered looking down the cement steps to the shoddy door with a sign saying nine circles hanging on it .“Nine circles? Sounds like an adult store.” He had to wonder why they always did this to him. Heaven forbid he ever did anything more interesting than set a bush on fire out in the middle of nowhere so his employer could keep the attention of a mortal while the message is conveyed. He descended the steps and entered a small room with old wooden panel walls and a green mesh carpet, waiting room of sorts.

“Welcome to the Nine Circles Demon Hunting Agency. How may I be of service?” A bubbly blonde sat behind an old reception desk greeted from the other side of the room right after the bubble she blew deflated.

“Sounds like a….”

“Yeah I know an ‘adult store.’ she interrupted surfing the internet “okay I got mapquest up. What do you need?”

“I wish to procure your services.”

“Oh okay just fill out this form and I’ll get the man-child in the back to help you.” she stated smacking the gum. “ Hey child in mans body we’ve got a customer!”

“Tell him we’re closed.” a male voice shouted from the other room

“Uh…is this a bad time?” Vincent asked shifting uncomfortably in a newly secured chair, which looked like it was picked up off the sidewalk and didn’t feel much better.

“Nah he just got a new game. huh, Euthan that certainly is a interesting name. Is it Greek?” she said looking at the paper.

“It is a very old name that comes from..” he started just before he was interrupted by a string words, none of which would be repeatable around nuns, children, or the p.t.a .

“Don’t have any yellow orbs left, do ya?” the blonde shouted to the back room

“(censored) you!” shot back in response to the blondes comment.

“Is he like that often?” Vincent asked trying to readjust himself.

“Only every second of every day,” she said just loud enough for the man to hear.

“I heard that!” he said.

“I know.” She smiled.

“You know what, just send him in” the man ordered sounding ashamed and defeated

“You heard him, go on in.” the blonde motioned towards the door near the desk.
Not wishing to cause anymore trouble Vincent went into the back and was greeted by a lean young man in his twenties with short brown hair longer in the back, with a soccer player’s build and was in a good physical condition.

“Hello my name is Michael and I believe you have met my lovely assistant
Margaret Keen” Michael said just loudly enough for her to hear.

“It’s MAGGIE goddammit!” she yelled from the other room

“I know.” He said teasingly. He was wearing a shirt that displayed a giant panda successfully attacking tanks and pants covered in polar bears with a gaping hole in one of the knees. “Let me change into something more formal and we can begin” Michael said pushing Vincent into the lobby again before slamming the door. A few minutes later Michael came out wearing a shirt that described the symptoms of being a zombie, but Vincent could not help but question its practical application, He was also wearing a pair of dark blue carpenter jeans. “Are you hungry, or are you just checking me out?” Michael asked with a grin while Maggie sighed.

“Yes.”

“Damn straight, wait what!?” Michael said doing a double take while Maggie was trying not to laugh.

“Yes, sure” Vincent said as he headed to the door.

“Hey wait up what do you mean by “yes” no wait up!” he whined in a frenzied panic as he scampered after Vincent who was heading out the door oblivious to the situation.

An hour later they were walking down the streets, Vincent was looking intently for something.

“I didn’t even finish my sub.” Michael whined cradling his hungry stomach

“Then maybe you shouldn’t of started swearing around all those nuns and children.”

“You’re the one who tackled the nun who used the soda fountain” Michael retorted

“ For the last time that was a demon and she was drinking from its bowels” Vincent defended himself.

“Hey where are you going?” Michael whined trailing behind Vincent who was walking off towards the park. A while later they arrived in a secluded area of the park and Vincent came to a halt.

“It’s here.”

“Wait, what is?” Michael asked when he saw Vincent unsheathing a long sword, The hilt was a brilliant red while the blades’ edge was a duller crimson color like that of dried blood. “ And exactly what is that supposed to be?” he asked quizzically.

“Shh” Vincent whispered.

“Shh? Shh what? Nothing is here okay? Just put the sword up and lets stop wasting time and get back to the office so we can.” Michael rant getting cut off by the sounds of trees being snapped in half followed by heavy footsteps and coarse breathing emanating from no more than a few meters away. “What the hell?” he said as a giant bipedal creature with corkscrew horns planted firmly on top of its square face emerged from the trees. when it came into full view he saw that it was about nine feet tall with padded fur covering its bulging body and edo period armor protecting its body. It was dragging a large metal club that was covered in bumps, each one the size of Michaels’ fists, it roared revealing rows of spiked teeth and paralyzed him on the spot.

“Go now!” Vincent yelled at Michael whose legs had frozen up “ What are you waiting for get a move on!” right as he finished the sentence the monster had hit him with its club sending Vincent through one of the nearby trees.

“Vincent!” Michael screamed, panic shooting through him but still unable to run.

Vincent got up growling accusingly at the monster. A wild look in his now yellow eyes as he picked up his blade and an insane grin spread across his face. The monster brought the giant club down on Vincent trying to finish him but before Michael could look away Vincent parried it effortlessly. Within seconds the monster laid on the ground in a bloody mess. Michaels terror induced adrenaline rush won out over the terror induced paralysis and he ran as fast as he could, darting under a pale green light positioned above the street. There was a screech and then a blinding light.

“no” was the last thought that raced through his mind as he fell to the street crumpled. His life flashed before his eyes, from his third birthday to his mothers disappearance, from the presents to his foster parents, even him the old man who sold him two guns that he used to cosplay at the Comic-con and the oath the old man made him take, to hunt demons who threaten the un-judged. A bright light and the withered old man came into sight wearing pitch black robes using a crooked scythe as a cane.

“You may not die yet until you reach their realm with your destiny and oath unfulfilled.” the old man said grasping onto the scythe, supporting himself with it using his other hand to point at Michael “ You chose your path. If you fail than so shall we. Either path is filled with strife, tread carefully Michael, son of Gabriel, the last truly free man.”
