What I didn't like was the theme, that no matter what there's always gonna be someone who sees you as an inferior and will call you names and such, that's not really a nice thing to think, like memento mori...

That's a rather old definition, the modern one is more similar, but is kind a like a love between a male and female friend without any sexual or romantic undercurrents.
So basically he really likes me, if only as a friend or whatever, I guess. XD
