The ending scene!
Yumikaido is happy though because he dies in his best friends arms. I imagine that being held in your final moments is a pleasant way to go. As Yumikaido is dying he entrusts Soya to take care of Aki. He is touched that Soya still loves him as a friend even after all the junk he put Soya and the whole world though and dies smiling.
