I'm sure at one point or another most of us have been by the water, and we've heard the foghorn sounded three times. Many have assumed there is no reason for it, but there is; there is a story behind the foghorn's three cries.
A long time ago there was a piece of land by the bay, rich and prosperous. It was owned by a wealthy man and his beautiful daughter, Caterina. One day a crew of fisherman came to the shore to catch and sell fish, and with them was a handsome fisherman named Arturo.
Caterina and Arturo met one day in the market, and they fell in love. But he father would not have his beautiful daughter in the arms of some lowly fisherman, so he forbid them to be together. Soon the crew left, and Arturo said to Caterina, "When I come back to this bay, I shall signal my arrival with 3 long blasts of the foghorn. When you hear it, come to me and we shall sail the seas together."
A year passed with no sigh of Arturo, but then one night Caterina heard the 3 long blasts of the foghorn. As she ran to the shore, a thick fog rolled in and the two could not see one another. Arturo called out, "Caterina! Caterina!" and she called back, "Arturo! Arturo!" and with that they both dove into the icy water.
But, due to the cold and the fog, they never found each other and they drowned. But, as legend has it, they were reunited at the bottom of the sea, and every time you see the water spraying up in the waves, that's them. Making love, for all eternity.
Now aren't you glad you sat and read this love story? It's true! Would Doctor Moonwalker lie to you? ;D
