Since college ended around the first week of May, I've been overrun by people coming and going out of my house! That week it was three college students (one of which was my older son) who have all gone to Atlanta for summer internships. During that week, my Mom flew in from Mexico to stay with us for the month of May and my younger son finished his college exams and also came home.
We've been steadily trying to remodel our bare basement (concrete walls and floor) into a large common/ living room, a bedroom, and a full bath. In the midst of the remodel, I was also building sets for my sons' former high school drama department. A project which I barely finished by the dress rehearsal. The play ("Seussical" wink was a huge success and the sets gave many raves... sorry, had to pat myself on my very sore and tired back.
Despite the play and with the help of the first set of college students, we finished the bedroom (sans floor... we've got lots of throw rugs covering the concrete floor for now). My younger son's room was moved to the basement. The main reason for the move is his 12 year old Lab has lost most of his eyesight (congenital problem). He can go up steps and walk around the house fine in the daytime or with bright lights on. Going down steps has becoming increasingly difficult for him, resulting at times in him missing a step and falling. Moving him and his boy to the basement seems to have made everyone much happier at night. Sean brings Shadow upstairs during the day and helps him downstairs at night.
With four college kids working with us, we finished putting up the walls in the common room (the wiring had already been done). We also got the suspended ceiling up and some of the lighting done before the older son and his friends left for their internship in Atlanta. That gave me a week to catch up on my house cleaning and on my laundry. All the college students brought home their dirty clothes and took over the washer/dryer. They all did their own laundry. Hey, I'm no dummy!
Then the following the next wave of visitors arrived. My Mom's sister's family (3 more people) from Ohio and Florida stayed with us for a week. I haven't seen them in a couple of years and we had a great visit. About two weeks after they left, our friends from North Carolina (again 3 more people) stayed with us for a few days. We then took them all to the airport as they are visiting family in China. A few days later (May 31), I put Mom on a plane headed back to Mexico (where she lives most of the year).
Whew! I've really, really enjoyed seeing everyone but I'm glad to get my house back... at least for a little while. Kevin (the older son) and his two friends are coming up for the weekend next week. Then two weeks later our NC friends are back here from China to spend a few days to recover from jet lag before heading home. In between these two visits, the hubby and I are escaping for a brief vacation, leaving our younger son in charge of the house and all the pets. It will be well deserved vacation! biggrin
