With this satchel I carry
I carry my heart
Keeping the men I work on from falling apart

On the bloody ground
In the cold I pray
Hoping for the war to end one day

With this satchel I carry
It carries my sanity
And on the field, saves all of humanity

This quiet, gentle soul
Hopes not to come to harm
Whose only crime is the red cross band on my arm.

An easy target
As the bullets whiz by
I hold my breath, and wait to die.

I know it’s coming
So take me now
Save them the trouble, just take me down.

Keeping your name
On my dying breath
Quick and painless, a silent death.
