This reminds me of an old Sonic the Hedgehog comic I read; where Robotnik/Eggman-nowadays brought his Death Egg to completion and brings it over Sonics village; you watch it first of all evaporate Tails; and then obliterate the entire zone; WITH a close up shot of Sonic as the ray strikes
...
And then it goes black; and Robotnik's servant pulls away from the screen; so it's KIND of an april fools... but technically not; it made for some pretty harrowing reading - although it could have been classed an april fools it in fact more ENHANCED the story of what COULD come true if he weren't stopped...
