Alright, now I will tell you the way I see it, and why I knew you'd pick the other way XD.

Answering that light is on the inside and darkness is on the outside is a very westernized viewpoint, mostly reinforced by religion to say in the first place that darkness is bad, evil, or means 'tainted'. Anyone who is of a bible religion answers this way, because the "evil external temptations will taint you if you give-in"... 'let the darkness' in. Therefore, you perceive darkness as external.

But that means that Light and Darkness are equated with Good and Evil... and that's not Really true, is it?

How is the pitch black of your room at night evil? Or the inside of a sealed box... or the inside of your mind...?

I wrote an entire essay on this just for myself, and to clarify the philosophy I use in my stories. That the Light is the outside, blinding, brash, progressive... and Darkness is the inside, alone, quiet, contemplating.
