Madina Lake
Ok so if you guys do not know who Madina Lake is, you better wikki them! Madina Lake is an amazing band, i just happened to write an essay about them, so here's the essay and all its glory!

I put the headphones to my ears and press “play” on my Ipod. The play list on right now says “Madina Lake”, my favorite alternative rock band. The first song that plays is “Adalia”. I close my eyes and picture myself sitting on a rock near the edge of Madina Lake. I can smell the water, crisp, like the saltiness of the ocean. Where is Madina Lake anyway? Rumor has it that Madina Lake is for kids that need a place to escape from the real world for a while. It is set in the 1950’s, when people thought that life was the greatest, and that nothing could go wrong. Also that Madina Lake was for a girl named Adalia. Who is Adalia? I’m not even sure. But it’s here, and I’m going to stay. From where I am sitting, I can see the lake and the vast sea of trees and bushes that surround it. The song changes in my Ipod; “True Love” is the song. It makes me think about the other kids that should be here too. There are a few random souls here and there, like a boy in a tree and a girl lobbing rocks into the lake.

It’s very quiet right now; the music playing in my ears is the only hum that breaks the silence. During the day, all you see is the dock with a big, empty wooden stage floating at the end. More kids show up as the day progresses. The song changes again, “Pandora” is the next tune. The sun is setting right now at Madina Lake; there are a lot more kids now. The sky is painted stunning shades of red and purple. This scene makes me think about the girl named Adalia. Is Adalia the reason Madina Lake is here? The song changes again. My last thought slips from my train of thought. “River People” Starts blasting through the headphones.

Now that it is getting late, the sun has already set and all that is left is the light yellowish-orange glaze that the sun leaves behind until the moon rises. Stars start to poke through the sky. It is easy to see how Madina Lake fills up. First the people around my age show, then people about 15 or 16 years old. Then the 18 year olds that bring portable charcoal grills, drinks (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic) and empty oil drums that can be easily brought here by a pick up truck or two. The stage has some instruments on it, like the drums, the guitar, and the bass. I guess the microphone will come once the band arrives. The air starts to fill with a wonderful aroma. The grills must have been lit. I can smell burgers and hot dogs. The whispers around the younger people say that there are going to be some pyrotechnics happening during the performance like fireworks and flame shooting out from the stage. The play list is almost finished on my Ipod, only 5 more songs to go. The next song that starts is “House of Cards”, my second favorite song. An 18 year old with a couple of his friends light the oil drums. The flames look so beautiful, dancing without the help of a breeze. There are about 10 oil drums around Madina Lake, but kids usually bring 2 or 3 of their own. It can get very cold at the lake, so everyone is thankful about the oil drums. As you wait for the band to arrive, and for the song to end, you can’t help but to count the drums filled with needed heat. I walk around the lake, stopping at a blanket with a group of my friends eating on it. As I sit down, the song changes to the first to last song, “Escape from Here”.

The band arrived at last, and everyone gathered around the Lake, making sure to stay clear of the dock or stage. The lake becomes extremely quiet. The moon is out. The sky is black. The stars are the only other light besides the oil drums. Crickets and the crackle of wood being burned are the only noises you hear. Everyone turns off their stereos and cover their grills so that nothing disturbs the quiet. Everyone waits for the music to begin, and it is not after the first word is spoken does anyone even take a breath. The first song they play is the last song on my Ipod, and my most favorite song by them, “Here I Stand.” I keep myself from taking off my headphones, afraid that if I take them off, the image would go away. Everyone starts jumping to the music, singing the lyrics as Madina Lake plays their opening song. You can practically feel the kids bumping into you as you jump up and down and bob your head to the beat of the music. The song starts to slow down; it is getting closer to finishing.

I don’t really want to take the headphones off, ending the concert that goes on in my head every time I listen to Madina Lake. I don’t want to leave that peaceful, secluded place. You can see it in the eyes of everyone; they don’t want to leave either. I reluctantly take my headphones off. The Ipod finished the play list already and was back to the main screen. Of course you can always just go back to Madina Lake the next day, or whenever you play their songs. The songs have a story behind them, and they all lead up to Madina Lake, all its sights, smells, and surfaces. And maybe, if you try hard enough, you can figure out whom this mysterious Adalia is, and why Madina Lake did everything revolving around her.

Tell me what you guys thought!! i know im a bit of an amateur when it comes to writing, but i hope i made you guys feel like you were actually there!!

Comment me y'all!
