This is something that's been bugging me for a while...
"Friends" is a word that can hold different meanings to different people. To me, it means someone who:
understands me (understands, not tries to understand -- there's a difference)
knows my fears, my weaknesses and my dreams
knows the way I make decisions in life; knows my values and priorities
knows pretty damn well how much I suck (but is willing to put up with me nonetheless)
Mind you, I don't mean "knows perfectly well." Just "has at least some knowledge of" will do. But even with such a lenient standard, half the people currently on my friendlist do NOT meet the criteria.
I've always been wanting to clean up my friendlist for that reason. Some of these people aren't really whom I would consider my "friends." I like them, I think they're cool and I care about them. But they're not my friends. I don't know them, and they don't know me.
I'm afraid of sending the wrong message, I guess. I care about everyone on my friendlist. They're all awesome. I love talking to them. But if I take them off my list, they might go "oh no, she hates me! wahhh!" ... precisely because they don't know what the word "friend" means to me.
Should I leave my friendlist as it is? I mean, it's just a list on my profile page... it shouldn't be bothering me this much, right? gonk
Haha, anyone notice how I'm so a**l about the word "friend," but use the word "love" liberally? I LOVE ME SOME LINGUINI, BABY.
