Box of Thought
05.29.06
A friend and I were talking by PM this morning. We hadn't talked a lot to each other, and, as usual when there's only one member of each sex on either side of the conversation, we were bestowing each other with polite compliments.
"It's hard to find understanding people these days. Most are just close minded and refuse to see outside of their box."
After reading that, I think a bit. It takes a bit of thought, then, "I kind of wonder what the 'box' is nowadays, though. If you really look around, it seems like a lot of people look outside the 'box', but then people still say they don't. Has the box grown or something?"
He replies, saying, "I think everyone has their own box. However, some people refuse to peek out the little window they carved in their box...and just sit inside their own box. My box has quotes and scripture written all over it. I think my box is pretty cool, to tell you the truth. Some people just aren't creative with their box."
That's led me to wondering about his words for the rest of the day. Where's the walls of the box? My own is very random; I think it blurs a bit every once in a while when things change. There was the discovery of electricity, the discovery of DNA. Now, they're just everyday thoughts.
Maybe thinking inside and outside the box for just a bit each day lets us see both sides of the world. One keeps us glued to reality, and the other keeps us sane. It's just one of those things where you can't only pick one.
Dedicated to Bloodline Severed.
