The magic crackled through the room. Rolling in waves of energy and power that flickered with bolts of quivering light. Magic filled the whole room. It made my skin crawl with it's strength, coating me like a second skin.
Vampires are magical creatures. We are charged with negative energies that keep the blood pumping through our veins without the use of a heart. A process that goes against the laws of nature. Though the natural world is filled with both negative and positive magic in a balance that is always in flux. A vampire is a break in the balance. Its very existence leaves a dent in the way the world runs, It is negative energy that doesn't fit into the predetermined mold of how nature was meant to run.
Witches on the other hand are creatures of balance. They are guardians of the world's natural order, forced to take action to make sure that things don't get tipped to far in either direction. They practice both negative and positive magic, because it's the only way magic will work. It is the only way to make sure that the witch isn't driven mad, by the extremes of either side. Naturally they tolerate vampires because my fire coats them. A natural magic that balances out the disorder created by their existence and allows them to enter the sunlight.
Still being in areas of highly charged magic didn't sit well with me. Magic reacted uncomfortably with vampires, as it does with most magical creatures. All that energy doesn't always mix well with the energy that already makes up our systems. Which is why I didn't generally stick around when Sora was getting ready to cast something.
Still, sometimes I could help with a spell. I had some magical training and in this case my blood was actually necessary so there was a reason for my being there. It was just, not a very pleasant experience.
Sora's chanting had grown louder and a wind whipped up around us, rattling the potion vials and making the books flutter. Anything that was loose and light weight seemed to take to the air, whipping around the room in a dangerous little tornado.
It was my cue.
Stepping forward I rolled back my sleeve and slipped one of my knives from the holster at my belt. The blade was thin and sharp, shinning in the light of the widely dancing candles. It was a specially made ritual blade, and the moment I pressed it against my skin the hilt shimmered, blood collecting at it's edge before sliding down my wrist.
The knife was meant to counteract my healing which would seal up any small cuts faster than they could bleed. Moving my arm I positioned it over the little bowl that held the rest of Sora's spell ingredients.
"Blood to find blood." I whispered, pressing down harder on the knife and watching as the trickle became a steady stream. My blood sizzled and popped the second it touched what was in the bowl.
------
A couple hours later, the spell was done and Sora, Butterfly, Mimi, and I were gathered around a map of the universe. (It's not as big as you might think, the different galexies are clickable). Lifting the bowl with the results of the spell Sora tilted it and poured it onto the map.
Almost instantly the blood mixture started moving, shooting across space, and zooming into planets and stars. I didn't recognize most of the universes by sight, but I was pretty sure that I knew which one it was going to.
It took it about fifteen minutes to stop, zoomed into a map of the United States. They were apparently somewhere in Vegas.
"******** in the human realm."
"Why the hell would Ty go there? He hates it there."
"Matt was banned and Ty went with him, where else would he go but to where there's a load of chicks and beer?" Sora muttered, rolling her eyes. "Either way, let's saddle the ******** up girls, before he completely corrupts my brother."
"How are we going to get Matt back in?" Mimi's voice was concerned. You couldn't really tell by looking at her then, that Matt had very nearly ripped her face off. It had long ago returned to it's annoyingly perfect beauty.
"Galexy has it covered."
"I still don't get why she's so eager to help. Why did she even vouch for him in the first place?"
"Look your guess is as good as mine, but right now we should leave."
"Fine. Butterfly pack the map. I'm going to get some stuff in case I need it. Mimi you go to the club and tell Illusion where we want to go. Kari, see if you can get some last minute information from Galexy. I'd at least like a tiny idea as to what the ******** she's planning."
