I wrote this a while ago and as I re-read it I found it worthy of posting.

We often become so tangled in the charade of life we neglect to see the things around us. Fighting so hard for the things we want, the things we already have lose value. We compare and contrast what we strive for and the things we already possess. The things we see in our imagination is always better than what we can see with our eyes. Yet when we do get something good the desire for something better soon negates the pleasure we feel for that something good. Thus we spiral into a path of never ending longings; always seeking something better, always desperate for something more. Look around you. What do you see? What do you feel? Is the air you breathe into your lungs not good enough? Is the beating of your heart so feeble you need something grand to hear it? Is the smile from the people around you so unappreciated that you accept nothing less than a powerful embrace?
Why is it we ignore the simple blessings in our life? Because they aren’t good enough. If you can not appreciate the simple joys, what makes you believe you have the capacity to embrace the grand ones?
