I try to make as big (or little) an impact as I possibly can, however, it's rough when you're only 17. ...

....

...I'm part of numerous campaigns to stop this oppression. The best way to fight is to get involved, no matter what. We are the ones that make big business, well, big business. So we can stop them, too.

i am curious, what are these campaigns? i'm interested! biggrin i've been working on a number of projects of this nature myself. smile

There are large and small campaigns that I am involved in. I'm a member of the ONE campaign, which is ridiculously easy, because there's so many other people that are a part of it, too! Just because they're well advertised doesn't mean they don't do good work.

Another campaign I'm part of is the To Write Love On Her Arms campaign. Now, this one may seem a little cliche, but it hits close to home with me. I'm not as big a part of it as I used to be, but a few years ago, a friend and I started a "Self-Injury Awareness Day" at our school, convincing everyone to wear orange(the awareness color) and putting facts on the TV news about self-injury.

I'm also part of the Green Committee at my school. Although we haven't done much yet, it's still a very satisfying feeling to make a difference, if even in your own small town, like mine. And not only am I an environmentalist inside the club, but outside. I try to convince my parents to buy locally and in bulk. I advise my mom against buying foods we do not need or will not eat. I try to get as much fresh fruit from my boyfriend (his grandparents own an orchard) as I possibly can for my family so we don't have to buy the ones that come from Florida.

Also individually, I try to celebrate local vendors as much as possible. My town is a very art-focused town, which is perfect for me (I do spraypaint art). Today, actually, I played a gig with my band at the local clay studio to celebrate their grand-reopening. I try to hang my art up in these galleries and let them take commission for my work. It's just a great feeling to be helping the community like that.

I hope these things inspire you! Let me know what you're up to to fight "the big man" =]

indeed! smile

right now i have been collaborating with some friends on something i am gonna start up, a plan to counter poverty with Charity and Community Service. i want to convince people to move to a more Socialist way of thinking, but without using the word Socialism. it wouldn't be like any Socialism they ever heard about anyway, i'm not a fan of marxism... i'm more of a Libertarian Socialist, so i just wanna get people in the mindset that if they work together like Hippies, in a community where everyone looks out for everyone else, that nobody has to ever be poor. smile

i've also been working on trying to start up a side project to provide relief for 3rd-world villages and families. instead of those foundations, i was thinking direct donations. volunteers donating clothes, shoes, food, medical supplies, and money to buy plane tickets, so that those who wanna come along can, and we'd hand out the donations to villagers in person.

i have long-term plans to fight gang-violence, domestic abuse, and substance abuse (both illegal and prescription/over-the-counter), but so far i have only been doing the small stuff. i've gotten individuals into foster care, taken on the role of caretaker, and i have dealer friends who i don't rat out because they keep the niches filled so that less scrupulous dealers can't plague the streets... ninja i'll complete my overhaul later, when i'm prepared.
