the lovely cheater
It started with one boy; she loved with all her heart. She would die for this boy, and do anything for him. Her name was Elaine. She had short blonde hair, always put up; she wore the common jeans, T-shirt, and tennis shoes. Everyone thought she was beautiful, except for her. She had a boyfriend. His name was Nick. He wasn’t the best looking around, but had a heart of gold, a pure soul, and loved Elaine more than anything. He had long, black hair, in his face, always wore dark clothes, and was muscular.
One day, Elaine was texting her friend Allan, who was a junior in high school. They were bored and started to ask random questions that come to mind. Elaine asked him what his favorite color was, he answered and asked if she liked him. Elaine has had a crush on him since the beginning of school, and they were into their third quarter. She answered back asking, “why, do you like me?” Allan didn’t answer back until two hours saying that he was working on his car, and will talk to her the next day.
Elaine’s heart beat hard, her face was bright red, and she didn’t know what to think.
The next day during 6th period, Allan wasn’t didn’t look at her, or even acknowledge her. And when school let out, he said, “come here.”
He walked behind a building and told her, “Elaine, I do have feelings for you. Ever since I met you. But I don’t want a girlfriend right now, but I do want to be friends. And I know your with Nick, It would have been kind of ackward.”
Elaine was speechless, she knew he did, but not that much. It scared her. Her face was red, and her heart beat out of her chest.
Finally she answered as he walked away, “I have feeling for you to,” she said as he turned around, “but I didn’t know how to express it without Nick knowing!
“It’s ok. Let’s just be friends then.”
“Ok.” She responded.
They walked to AG2 for drill practice. Nick had rifle drill, and was Elaine’s ride home. Drill only lasted for an hour and was on only Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
She waited for drill to be overt and was excited it was almost 4:00 so she could go home.

A month later, her and Nick were going strong, then after school, Allan pulled Elaine behind a wall near the boys’ locker room and said, “I want to kiss you, really bad.”
She was scared and frozen with fear. After a few seconds she hugged him tight and told him, “I cant.”
“Why not?” he asked.
“Nick, what about Nick?” she asked with fear.
“ If we do it real quick, he’ll never find out.” He said looking behind the wall.
She hugged him tighter. He pulled he off him and kissed her. It was tender and quick.
After the kissing stopped, he looked her in the eyes. His eyes were shinning and glossy. He got hold of himself and both of them left from behind the wall. As they turned, Nick was walking toward them. He saw them and had a puzzled look on his face. Elaine wanted to keep it a secret. She said to Allan,
“ thank you for helping me with my Spanish homework!”
“No problem, just text me if you need any more help.” He said quickly.
Allan left and Nick asked, “what were you two doing back there?”
Elaine lied and told him, ”He was helping me with my Spanish work.”
“Are you sure?” Nick questioned.
“I’m sure. Is your grandma here yet?”
“Ya, she’s at the Asian market.”
“Ok, let’s go,” she said quickly.
They walked to the market and got in the car.
For the next week, Elaine was acting weird. She was quiet, and wanted to avoid Allan and Nick at all costs. The only people she told were three of her close friends: Lisa, Kira, and Faith. All of them told Elaine to tell Nick what happened. So she told him…
Nick was mad Elaine didn’t tell him earlier. He was also mad at Allan because they were friends. And now, the relationship between Elaine and Nick was over.
As the day went on, Nick was avoiding Elaine and didn’t want to talk to her. After school, they walked over to the market, where his mom was suppose to pick up. She was running late and they sat down. Elaine sat quietly at the end of the bench.
“Was it worth it” Nick asked.
“What do you mean?” Elaine asked, hoping he didn’t hear the sorrow in her voice.
“Was it worth killing my heart! After all I comforted you this weekend!” she said with tears running down to her chin, ”This wasn’t my fault!”
“Sure. You could have run away, or kicked him!”
“You know when I get scared I freeze!” she yelled through her tears.
“Whatever! I still don’t believe you!”
She was speechless. She didn’t want to loose him. He was her life.
Nick’s mom pulled up and saw Elaine crying, and acted like nothing was wrong. The car ride home was silent and intense.
Elaine was dropped off at her house. She opens the garage door and waved to Nick’s mom as she drove off. She walked into the house. “Home alone again….” She said to her two dogs. The tilted their heads in hope of receiving treats. Elaine dropped her bag onto the floor, still in a state of depression, she grabbed her scissors and cut her hair in uneven jags. After she had gotten tired of cutting her hair, she put the scissors down and went into the kitchen as her blonde hair she cut fell to the ground.
She grabbed a knife from its stand and cut her wrists. Blood dripped on the floor as she sighed with relief. She put he knife down and fed the dogs.
Later that night, Elaine’s mom came home with her sister Lynn. Lynn put her bag down by her chair and worked on her homework.
“Elaine! Are you home?” her mom called out.
There was no answer… her mom called again, but still no answer. She went and knocked on the bathroom door, and opened it. Nothing.
Her mom walked down the hall to Elaine’s room, and opened the door. Her mom screamed and stood staring into the room. “Lynn! Call 911!” her mom stuttered.

Nick turned on the TV later that night to a breaking news report. He recognized the house on the screen and called his mom into the room. The news showed a picture of the house with police, fire trucks, and an ambulance at the street. They wheeled a big, black bag into the ambulance truck.
“Here is the house where the teenager was found by her mom, hanging in her room.” The reporter stated.
They showed a school picture of Elaine on the screen, and Nick melted. H was sad and hollow. He didn’t know what to say or do.

The next day, everyone at the school wore black, and a classroom was filled with flowers, stuffed animals, and balloons. Nick walked into the room holding hands with an other girl like they’ve been together a long time. He set down a black rose and told the girl, “its shame, she was such a good friend… but we were never the close.”
The girl kissed Nick’s cheek lightly, as they strolled holding hands out of the room.
