Things were quiet. Now normally, for Fate's pets, quiet meant solitude, and not having him running around as he frantically panicked over little problems he encountered during the day. All of the wolves Fate had adopted and raised lived at his little farm out near the forest, meaning they had access to the forest itself, the beach, and his many acres of bright green grass to just laze around in.
Devil and Torture decided to spend most of their time in the forest, living with Trouble, as a family should. Aurora spent her time near Fate as best she could, enjoying the cool breeze that was always present on his front porch. Lazarus and Blaze spent their times adventuring from the beach through the acres and back.
The only wolf that Fate looked after with wings was Larissa, and she spent most of her times flying. Though she was partially clumsy with her flight, she felt best at home in the skies, overlooking everything and everywhere. Today was one of those days, and she was enjoying soaring somewhat majestically through clouds.
Somewhere, deep in the darkest spot of the forest, was something nobody had ever seen before. An object Fate had only ever heard of as a legend, something spoken of as though a fisherman was talking about the 'catch that got away'.
Buried beneath some dying leaves and moss, was a long cloud-like staff, shaped like a swirl of white wool, with two big, purple, angel-like wings on the top. Near the mid-shaft of the staff was a gold band, similar to a prisoner's shackle, with a chain hanging off it. There was also a small, dark demonic-like wing sitting right on the top of the staff, nestled between the two larger angel wings. Something about it cried mystery, and it would be possibly years before man or wolf ever discovered it.
However, on this day, there was a direct patch of sunlight coating it perfectly, the sun's rays glinting ever so brightly off the gold band and back into the sky.
Larissa had been flying for hours, but she didn't mind. She had flown for a whole day at once, not realizing until she landed for what she thought was lunch time. But oh the fun she had! Up in the sky she was truly herself, rather than being grounded (yes, in that sense too) at the homestead.
"The wind feels particularly cool today.." she whispered sweetly to herself, as she closed her eyes mid-flight. She had been training to fly without using her vision, but more the sense of her surroundings, and lately she had gotten better. Bear in mind, when she first tried it, she had to explain the big hole in the side of Fate's house to him. But he didn't mind, seeing as how she had a pretty nasty splinter in one of her wings from the impact.
Something caught her glance before she even managed to shut one lid. A small, sparkling object deep in the forest, it's source coming directly from the sun. She stopped in the air, fixing her gaze downward to the location.
"I wonder what that is? Perhaps it's something Fate would like...it is shiny..." she spoke aloud again, her voice getting softer near the end of her sentence. She had a natural affinity for sparkling objects, and would constantly leap onto Aurora whenever one of her anklets was sitting in the sun just right for it to shine.
The staff was still motionless, as Larissa circled above, almost like a vulture ready to pick off it's next meal. Then, something stirred.
One of the angelic wings twitched. A feather gently floated down onto the forest ground from it, as it slowly started to flap back and forth. The second wing followed in a similar pattern, as the staff just lay there, it's wings gently billowing back and worth with such unison.
Almost as if it was trying to actually fly...but, the pile of leaves and moss made it hard for it to do so. Not that it wanted to fly, mind you.
A soft, almost whisper quiet, voice floated upward towards Larissa...well, it didn't actually float, but more so appeared inside of her mind.
"Help me..."
Larissa twitched.
Actually, twitched is an understatement. When that voice entered her mind so suddenly, she sort of half-screamed, half-flipped backwards and nearly fell to the treetops. Again, she wasn't a very skilled flying wolf.
"What on earth was that?!" she asked herself, as she regained her composure. Surely, that object down there...whatever it was...didn't just speak to her, did it? She knew of wolves who could communicate telepathically, but she herself had no idea how or why.
This bore massive curiosity. But, her mind was telling her to fly back and let Fate know what she had noticed, and heard. Then he could adventure out with her and find this thing, and bring it back. But, as she normally did, curiosity got the better of her.
Down she dove, not at an incredible speed, as she was very cautious, but she soared down towards the clearing in the forest, a few meters from where the staff lay buried.
The staff's wings had picked up speed slightly, blowing a few of the leaves away. Again, the voice resonated within Larissa's mind, this time a bit more clearer to her.
"Please...help me..." it spoke to her, almost as if the staff was alive...or was it? Rumors had been spreading that certain Myth-classed wolves were found as inanimate objects, like this staff. But, they were just rumors, and even though Fate had heard many, he didn't truly believe them. This staff would probably be such a thing, a Myth, but would it be? Perhaps it was something left behind my a wisely mage, from an era long ago?
Only time would tell, and right now Larissa was being given full attention by it.
Oh no, it spoke again, panicpanicpanic! Larissa's mind was on full alert, as the voice again interjected into her mind instantly. She had no idea whether to walk over and inspect, or to stay there and just wait for it to stop talking to her.
"What...no, who...wait, definitely what...what are you?" she called out, her voice echoing through the dense forestry. As soon as she spoke, the winds gave her the most silent reply she had ever heard, which brought shivers to her spine.
Sitting down and pulling a few stray leaves from her fur, she kept her eye on the opening ahead, noticing two pink-like objects moving back and forth. Perhaps they were ears? A lost wolf who had been injured? Or maybe they belong to a monster, lying in wait to trap and devour her? Oh, so many question, and...is that a flying fish? Oh, her mind was losing it now. She leaned her head down as she felt dizzy all of a sudden.
The staff's wings flapped faster, almost clearing the rest of the leaves from it's central body. It started to rise slowly, but was still held down thanks to the moss entangled around it.
"Please...free me from this moss.." it spoke again, almost pleading for Larissa to help. Funny, to Larissa, it sounded like a female voice...could it be? No, a Myth lying right here, unformed, and trapped? But how could such a thing happen to an incredibly rare wolf?
Again, the sunlight glinted off the gold band, reflecting towards Larissa.
No no no, why is this happening? Can't it have happened to someone else? Surely Larissa didn't need this kind of...wait, was that something shiny? The source from before!
Mind completely hooked on the glistening band, she ran forward, knocking the moss clear of the staff, and smiling. Until she realized. Then she took a few good steps back, almost trembling.
"You're...you're a Myth, aren't you...?" she asked, trying to piece together the clues. If this WAS a Myth, it would be unformed and waiting for an owner...which would mean if Larissa brought it to Fate, he would be it's owner...and then it would have a form of a wolf! Things were starting to look up now, as Larissa's wings started beating happily on their own accord.
Amazingly, as soon as the moss was cleared, the staff floated straight upward. Right in front of Larissa.
Now, any other person would probably run away screaming, or start trying to capture it and run experiments on it. Larissa, however, was standing her ground. This intrigued the staff.
"Yes, I am a Myth...my name is Chandra, and I was separated from my pack centuries ago...when I was separated, I reverted back into this form, to await help..." it spoke mentally to Larissa, hovering softly above the ground. It truly was a sight to behold, a Myth, right here, unclaimed! This would make someone very happy if they got their hands, or paws, on it. Though, the odd demonic wing was somewhat unusual for a Myth...
"Chandra...my name is Larissa, I can help you find someone to take care of you." Larissa said, still cautious, but happy. A Myth! Fate would be incredibly happy to hear this! She should fly back to the homestead and grab him now, but...
Chandra looked like she had been in this forest for far too long, and to leave her, it, her, here again...she wouldn't have it. If she had to, she'd carry the staff back to Fate, and see what he could do. But, how would she carry Chandra back? With her paws? No, she couldn't grab onto objects very well. Held by her tail? Again, her tail wasn't very strong for holding things. On her back? It would work, but she would have to avoid turning sharply.
It was settled. Larissa edged herself over to the staff carefully, and scooped it onto her back. "Stay put, and I'll take you back to my home, yes?"
Chandra stayed put as she was placed onto Larissa's back, the wings at the tip slowing to a gentle flutter. This was good, a person who could help bring her back to the form she used to be, but how long would it take to find this person? What if he didn't want Chandra?
"Thank you, Larissa..." she spoke again, the voice soft and quiet, almost as if the staff was falling asleep. In fact, it was, the wings now slowing down completely to a standstill. The staff felt weightless on Larissa's back, as if it was made of the clouds themselves.
Truly, this day was going to be amazing for everyone.
Larissa smiled, as she took off into the skies, making sure not to turn or bend herself in any way that would cause the staff to fall. She flew directly towards home, making sure she kept steady.
Odd...this staff felt like a cloud...sort of soothing, and light..Larissa smiled warmly, knowing this was indeed a wonderful day for her.
"Oof...something's tickling my wings..." she giggled, as she looked back slightly. One of the wings on the staff was brushing right against her right wing, just at the joint between the wing and her body. It was one of her more sensitive spots, something Fate would use to advantage whenever he was giving Larissa attention. However, this feeling right now was starting to become too much.
She giggled. Then, she laughed softly, then harder. She was almost bucking in chuckles and laughs so badly, that her gaze had been averted for at least ten seconds. Long enough for a stray eagle to almost fly into her face.
Screaming, she quickly spun out of the way, tilting her body to avoid the eagle. Phew, she thought to herself, that was close...but wait. Her back seemed different, the tickling sensation gone. She stopped and looked back, her face going almost white.
The staff had fallen in the midst of the close encounter, as it plummeted downward back towards the forest.
"Oh no!"
The staff fell, the commotion with the eagle sending it straight back to where it first was. However, Chandra's new location was into a more dense part of the jungle, which was harder to explore. The wings beat as best they could to descend the falling speed, but it wasn't working great.
As it descended into the forest below, it felt like a face was looking back at Larissa, saddened and scared.
"We shall meet again, Larissa!" it cried out inside Larissa's mind, scared yet friendly, as the staff finally disappeared into the green below.
Larissa sighed and shooed the eagle away, growling as it squawked at her. Her gaze drifted down to the forest, as a tear fell from her face. She had found something so amazing, and then lost it in a split second...heart broken, she turned and flew back slowly to home, almost in pain that she had to inform Fate of what had happened today.
"Chandra...please be safe..." she whispered as she took off again, the sun slowly starting to set behind her.
Things have a way of working out, and Larissa hoped tremendously that she would be reunited with the staff once again.

When Larissa returned in a sad state, Fate immediately ran out to comfort her. He listened to her story, amazed and saddened at the same time, as he reassured her over and over that the staff would turn up again.
He called Ange, and informed her of what he had been told. The forest was particularly hard to navigate during the day, and worse at night, so she informed him not to worry about the staff right now. She did tell Fate that the staff Larissa had found was indeed a Myth, and that Larissa finding it meant that Fate was destined to find and look after the Myth himself.
As night fell, the staff lay in a mess of mud, leaves, water and twigs, one of the wings slightly injured from the fall. It's small golden band was tarnished with dirt, making it look like it was made of copper. It has suffered rough, and who knew how long it would take until someone found her again.
Chandra, the Myth, was yet to be found again for the second time.
