Dear Jeffery and Nathan,
yesterday, mrs.calbert was encouraging people to enter the MLK(martin luthor king) speech contest. i told her that it was pointless and that no one listens.she said that that should be my topic and i'm going to write you a rough draft.
all of you here, today, i have to say that half of you probrably aren't listening, and that's the problem. when we write these speeches, or want to get something through to you, we expect you to listen.do you know why there are still wars? because no one listens to what peace makers have to say! it's hard to dream, and it's hard to put a dream in words.so when people come up to talk and say what they gotta say, all of their time and efforts are wasted! because most people, can't take 5 minutes out of their entire stinkin' lives, to consider what other people have to say."why should we listen?" "what can we do?" there is great power in numbers, but most of those numbers think too much of "oh, only i care" or "oh, only i want to change things"... if you asked a random person the streets, would you like to stop wars, or polution, or whatever it is you want to stop, they'd probrably say "yes". if people didn't listen to mlk, we'd still have slavery. if the poeple listened then, why can't we listen now?think about it, and i know...i sound really stupid. stare
