Prologue
Memories…
“It’s cold” I said to myself while l was looking at ground, everything was white. It’s strange everything used to be green and brown with lots of other colors. But when the sky turned white, stuff like water fell from the sky and covered all the other colors, making them all white. I felt sad; I liked all the other colors. I stick out my tongue to taste the falling sparkling water. But they melt on my tongue and taste like water. So I give up and run to my mother.
“Mother, what’s all this white stuff?” I asked. My mother smiled and walked out of our huge house onto the white wet stuff.
“It’s called snow dear.”
“But why is it here? I miss all the colors!” I said whining. My mother started to laugh. I don’t why though, I didn’t say thing funny.
“It’s like this, over time the weather changes. In the summer its gets hot lets the plants give us food. When Fall comes it gets windy, telling the plants to start sleeping during winter. Then when winter comes all the plants sleep because it gets cold and raining. Finally Spring comes letting new plants grow. And it keeps going like that until the world ends.”
“Oh…” I answered, I don’t really understand much but I guess it’s the way the world works. I looked into the white sky and try catching the snow, but I keep missing. My mother kept laughing for some reason. I heard something; I looked to the gate and saw my father coming home.
“Father’s home!” I yelled running to him. Father then lifts me off the ground and hugged me. Mother starts walking to us.
“How’s my little girl?” He said grinning.
“Good!” I said smiling. My Father put me down and came up to Mother and gave her a quick kiss. I giggled and played more in the snow.
“How’s Mother doing?”
“Just fine, I was just telling her how the weather changes.”
“I see.” My father whispers something into my mother ear. Then her face looked worried all of a sudden. I wonder why but I knew they won’t tell me, besides I didn’t care I was too fascinated with the snow.
“Is there no other way?!” My mother yelled.
“I’m afraid so “He said something else and his mouth moved but no sound came out. “Want us dead!” My Father said.
“Couldn’t we have a peace treaty?! Or something”
“Iren would have to marry the son of the head family. I’m not sure how that would work out, but I don’t think their willing to do that anyway.” I get up and walk over to my mother and father; I tug on fathers pant leg. He looks down at me and smiles kindly.
“What is it Iren?” He asks
“I’ll marry this...Boy if you want, to make you happy.” I think said something I shouldn’t have because Father was mad. I don’t why; I want to make him proud of me. Tears build up in my eyes, and then Father notices them and smiles again. He bends down and wipes the rest of my tears with his finger.
“Iren…” He said gently “Don’t say things like that.”
“Why? I want to make you and Mother happy!”
“It would make us sad if you did… You see Marriage is when you love someone other than your family and spend the rest life with them. Like me and your Mother, we love each and had you. That boy you don’t even know!”
“Oh I see… So then I want to get married to Sten!” I said smiling. I don’t think Mother and Father understood what I said because they turn to each other and looked confused.
“Huh?” Mother and Father said at the same time.
“Sten isn’t part of my family, but I love him because he’s takes care of me when Mother and Father are gone. He also cleans the house and plays with me!” I explained. I was serious but they just laugh for some reason.
“Dear, Sten is a… bit… too old for you.” Mother said laughing.
“Your Mothers right honey. You’ll find someone you will love when you’re older.”
“I love Sten!” I said stubbornly.
“You’re going to change your mind later. Now let’s eat dinner, I’m starving!” My Father said taking my mother hand and they walked inside the house.
“Iren!” My mother called my name. I ran into the house and ate dinner, then went to bed when it got dark.

I felt something shake me hard, I slowly opened my eyes. It was dark but I see my Mother’s face, she looked scared and was shaking for some reason.
“I-Iren! Wake up!” She Hissed.
“Mother!? What’s wrong?” I asked and yawned, I don’t know why my Mother was acting like this. All I knew was I wanted to be in bed.
“We need to leave!” She said, I got up from my bed. I looked around the dark room, there was nothing scary here.
“Why? Where’s Father? What’s going on?”
“Shush….Iren, they’re bad people here! Your Father is trying to… talk to them!” There are so many questions I still had to ask, but Mother took me out of my room quickly. She put a jacket on me and but some bread in my pockets.
“Iren…let’s play a game!” Mother said. I love games!
“OK! What game?” I said smiling.
“You remember the place under the porch, you need to hide there! DO NOT MAKE A SOUND! If you get hungry, eat the bread I gave you! Also when you go to there don’t walk in the snow or you will be found! You understand!”
“Yes Mother!” I nodded
“Be a good-girl! Kay’” She kissed me on the head. “I’m going to go help your Father! You can come out when you see Sten” Then she ran off into the darkness. I still don’t know what’s going on! But if my Mother was so scared then I better listen to her.
I find my way under the porch. It’s my hiding place only I can fit in! I find a small hole and peek out into the darkness. I can see some shadows of what I think are people but everything else is black.
“I will not allow you to pass!” I voice spoke, I knew that voice, and it was my Fathers! There were other voices but I didn’t know who they were.
“Watch me!” one of the voices said, and they ran towards my Father. Though my Father was quicker and pulled out something like a long stick, Then it when right though the person. They fell to the ground and did get up.
“Idiot!” The other voice grumbled. “Sorry old man! But I’m going to have to kill you now, don’t take in personal. I’m just following orders.” The voice sounded soft like a girls, but also sad and lonely. So I kind of felt sorry for her, but I knew she wanted Father to end like that other person and not get up and I hated her for that.
“You’re just a little girl!” My father said in shock.
“Well I’m old enough to live by myself mister!” The girl snapped. Then she pulled some kind of object out from under her clothes. My father gasped, It wasn’t a stick like Fathers; it wasn’t long either, Just short. It didn’t look dangerous all but Father sure thought so.
“You’re….f-from Lianne!”
“Yep, you got a problem with that!”
“b-but you’re not supposed to be here!” Father replied.
“Well, I’m not really supposed to kill you either so I really don’t think it matters, anyway say goodbye to life old man!” The girl’s object clicks, but something shoved my father. Then a loud sound came from the object. The thing that shoved my Father was a person; they just stood there for a while, and then fell to the ground. The girl seemed confused but Father didn’t.
“Karen!” my Father screamed, I knew that name, it was my Mothers. Father ran to her, and lifted her up.
“S-Shawn…Th-Thank you..For…Every….thi---“her voice stopped. My Father started to cry and kept screaming Mothers name over and over again. I don’t know what happened to Mother but I guessed she wouldn’t ever get up.
“Little girl… Why do you kill people?! Is it for Money? Fame? Or because you want to?! ” My Father asked while putting Mother down.
“One reason is for money yes…Another reason is so I can regain something I lost…A long time ago.” She replied calmly.
“I can’t even begin to imagine what caused you to become like but your days of suffering end HERE!” My father got up, took his stick and ran towards the girl. But all she did was click the little stick and the same loud sound happened. And just like my Mother he fell to the ground, I watch in horror.
“Please….. Don’t hurt… I-Iren! Ple---“Father begged.
“May you rest in peace.” The girl said. I couldn’t take this anymore; I got out from my hiding spot and ran to where Mother and Father were laying.
“Mother…Father!” I screamed, I thought the girl was going to take out her little stick but all she did was stand their watching me. I went to my Mother and jerked her, but she wouldn’t get up, tried the same thing with Father. But they both won’t move.
“They won’t ever get up again, because there dead.” The girl told me. I looked at her but it was still dark out so I couldn’t see her ever well. Her face hidden behind her hood, and it made her look scary.
“Tell me something, do you hate me?” She asked me, I looked at her in surprise.
“I don’t hate you… I feel sad for you right now. You said you needed something and you have to hurt people to get.” I answered softly. I don’t think she was expecting to hear that, because she jumped a bit.
“I wish I could have been as brave as you.” The girl said as she walked off into the night. I laid down between Mother and Father in the snow; I held both of their cold hands and looked into the night time sky.
“It looks like this is the last time we will be with each.” I told them and then fell asleep.

I woke up in a bed; there was a fire in front of me by and old rocking chair. I sat up in the bed and wonder where I was. I wanted to be at home with Mother and Father but I knew they were dead… and I couldn’t ever see them again. Just then the door open, I looked up to see an old man.
“STEN!!!” I yelled in joy. I got up and ran to him; hugging his legs as hard as I could. I was so happy that he was here.
“Iren you’re up, you’ve been asleep for a week!” His old voice said gently.
“I’m not alone!” I yelled out.
“No, you are Iren.” He picked me up and sat down on the bed. I looked at his old wrinkly face, his blue eyes were sad and his gray hair looked even grayer.
“Iren, I know this is hard but what happen to Shawn and Karen?” Sten asked and I told him everything thing that had happened that night. He nodded a lot, and looked a bit shock when I mentioned the word Lianne but said nothing.
“Sten… where are Mother and Father!” I asked
“Iren, would you like to see them?”
“Yes!” I said nodding and then Sten took me to where Mother and Father where.

There were lots of rocks in the ground with people’s names on them, the snow was now all gone so I was able to see plants. The place was sad for some reason, don’t know why but it might be because everyone here was like Mother and Father. I turned to Sten.
“Where are they?” I asked
“Right here!” Sten said pointing to two rocks with my Mother and Father names on them; I sat down In between both of them.
“Aren’t you going to cry?” Sten asked me.
“No…. I don’t think they would want me to.” That was a lie, it’s not because they wouldn’t want me to, it was because I couldn’t cry, For some reason I just couldn’t. Maybe I’ll understand when I’m older. Sten sat next to me until the sun was going away. The sun looked so pretty, it was yellow, orange and pink. I reach out to it.
“Sten am I going to live with you now.” I asked
“I’m afraid not, I’m too old Iren!” He replied
“The where am I’m going to stay?”
“A place where other kids are the same as you” He said
“Where that?”
“Follow me Iren!” Sten took my hand and brought me to my new home.
