Ch 5: The Night the Moon Danced
They both were startled buy the sudden vibration as Lisa quickly pulled herself off of him. She rolled her eyes and replied to the text message she received.
“Sorry bout that. It was just my nosey friends, that’s all.”
“Its ok,” replied T-man as he raised himself upright again. “No harm done.” She smiled at him gently as she looked up at the nights sky. Either it was just his imagination, or Lisa was just more beautiful now than ever before. Maybe it was how the moon reflected off her skin. Or maybe it was the gleam in her eyes. Whatever it was, he couldn’t take his eyes off her. “You’re daughter looks so beautiful tonight tonto.” She said He smiled with a light chuckle.
“Yea, Luna is always beautiful in my eyes.”
“Sadly I have to be going soon. Nana wants me in by ten and its already nine forty-five.”
“Hmm, I see.” he said, with a sigh. They both sat their silent for a while, then looked at each other and smiled.
“I guess we should get going princess. Don’t want to get you into trouble with you nana.”
Lisa nodded as he helped her up.
They walked along the same path that led them to that perfect spot over looking the river. The cool breeze from the water gave the park a very lovely atmosphere. The chill gave Lisa the perfect excuse to wrap her arms around his as he lead her back up to the fountain were they met. They didn‘t speak a word as they walked hand in hand. About midway, Lisa leaned in as she wrapped herself around his arm. He didn’t mind at all as he smiled at her, then looked up towards the moon. His mind which usually has a million thoughts a second was completely blank for the first time in years. Just being with her made everything feel just right in his heart. He felt like he was walking on cloud nine as they glided along threw the trees and into the opening as they finally reached their destination.
“Well I guess this is it …” she said as she slowly loosened herself away from him. “ It was great to finally get to see you in person tonto. I really enjoyed our time together.”
“Me too.” He replied, feeling that same nervous sensation again.
“I really wish I could stay a bit longer but,…well rules are rules.”
“Yea, I know what you mean. I got to be going myself pretty soon as well.” with a smile, lisa smoothed her hair over her ears.
“Yea. We really have to do this again sometime. Maybe a bit earlier so we won‘t have to end our night so suddenly.” T-man Nodded in agreement.
“Defiantly.”
They both smiled at each other rather nervously as their eyes danced around trying to avoid direct contact with each other.
“Well…” Lisa started, but the look on his face prevented her from uttering those final words of goodbye.
As they looked at each other with the innocent eyes of a doe, that familiar nervousness creped back over them and sent a relaxing chill down their spins. Slowly as if caught by a trance, they began to lean into each other . Time and everything around them grew still as their faces grew closer and closer. Then suddenly with a deep breath, Lisa sank her head into his chest as she wrapped herself around him like a glove. She felt so soft in his arms as she snuggled herself in tighter. He could feel her heart beating once again alongside his in perfect harmony. Once again they were transported to a realm of their own, as they lost track of the time, and their surroundings. And once again, they were ripped away by the melody of her pink glittery phone.
“ugggggh!” She groaned as she slowly pulled herself away from him again to answer her phone. She already knew exactly who was on the other line before pulling it out.
“Hello?” She said in a rather moody tone. It was clear to T-Man that whoever it was, she really didn’t want to be bothered with them. She then began to speak in Spanish for the rest of the conversation. “[Yes, what do you want? I know, I know. I’m on my…what? No, I can walk myself home. Wait, you’re HERE already?! Where!?…look, just give me a few seconds and I’ll…No I don’t want you to meet me, I’ll met you at the car. Look, just stay their and I’ll be over in a second ok.]” She hung up the phone rather quickly then turned towards him with a smile.
“Hey.” She said very nervously. For some reason she started to slowly inch away from him bit by bit while looking over her shoulders every nine seconds. “Well, I thank you once again for the pleasant evening and I hate that we have to end our night together so suddenly, but that was my Aunt and knowing her she‘s probably already out here looking for me. So hopefully we’ll get a chance to do this again sometime soon. And I‘m really sorry if I seem to be rushing but....”
Lisa was suddenly cut off over the loud booming voice that came from behind her.
“LISA!!!!” Yelled a girl from the opposite side of the water fountain. She looked to be about the same age as Lisa, if not a little older. The lady shot down the hillside and approached were they were standing. Lisa’s face turned bright red as she made her way towards them. She spoke once again in Spanish so that T-Man couldn’t understand what she was saying. Or hear any curse words that she felt like using.
“[What are you doing here!? I told you to wait in the car].”
“[Don’t tell me what to do, you’re not my mother. Beside I’m the responsible adult here, I should be asking you that question. What the hell are you doing out here so late anyways…]” She glanced up at T-Man with a smug look. “[and who is this little boy your with?]”
“[He’s a friend of mines ok and its none of your business what I‘m doing here either.]”
“[Oh is that so? Because of you I had to come all the way down here, in the middle of the night, waste 3 gallons of gas just to pick your sorry a** up! So its defiantly my business now.]” She glared directly at T-man and began to approach , but Lisa tugged her away.
“[Come on lets go!]” Yelled Lisa. “[You wanted to come get me and you got me now lets get home before we both get in trouble.]”
“[Just a sec ok. You still haven’t even introduced me to your little boyfriend yet. I didn’t know you were into football players.]”
“[Would you shut up! He’s not my boyfriend, he’s just a guy I met on the bus today and…]”Her Aunt smiled at her with a wicked grin.
“[Oh get your mind out of the gutter, he’s just an old friend of mines from school. We haven’t talked in a while and…forget it, why am I talking to you about this anyway. Lets just go and I’ll explain it to you later.]”
“[No, I still want to know something from him.]”
“[There’s nothing to know! Just get in the car and lets go already!]”
“[Who are you talking to like that? Or did you forget who’s the oldest here]”
“[Its just a years difference, besides you’re still as childish as you were when you were my age.]”
“[Oh, please. I was way more mature at your age. Plus ten times cuter too!]” On and on, they continued to bicker and fight until finally her aunt stormed off.
“...Yea, sorry you had to hear all that. My aunt can be a real pain sometimes...”
“Oh, its ok.” he said, still kind of bewildered by the event.
“I hope we didn’t frighten you too much tonight tonto”
T-Man Laughed casually, until her aunt reappeared again.
“[You two aren’t making out yet are you?]” she asked them in Spanish. Once again Lisa was furious, but too embarrassed to comment. Instead she just grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her towards the car, as her aunt continued to yell and curse in Spanish.
“Sorry about all this tonto!" She screamed over her aunts nonsense. “I’ll talk to you later on tonight if your still up.”
“Oh,…ok then. Is everything alright?”
“Yea! Were fine. Its just something we do a lot.”
“Oh,… well alright then”
After pushing her aunt into the car she hurried up and got in on the passenger side of the vehicle.
“See you later tonto! Bye!” she yelled, waving out the window as the pulled off.
“Bye ..princess.” he muttered to himself as he waved back at her.
He waited until their car was completely out of sight, then made his way to the bus stop. A few moments later he found himself walking home with the memory of her essence still fresh in his mind. Everything about her, from her eyes to that beautiful personality of hers seemed to excite his heart to no end. Just the very thought of her had his heart racing. He began to day dream about walking her home, sharing a apartment together. Sleeping in the same bed as one another…it was obvious that he was in love with her, but he knew that he’d never be able to tell her up front…at least not yet. For now he felt it best to just remain friends, and see how things go from their. But if the inevitable happens,….
He walked up the steps of the apartment building he lived in, greeted his family, joked with his father and brother a bit, got beaten on by his older sister, told his mother about his day and ate dinner, then made his way to his room he shared with his brother and checked into bed with a smile on his face.
