PQ sat in her bay window, staring out at the town that she loved. Love. It was amazing how such a word had suddenly made everything just different enough to confuse the cyborg. She could still hear Lanzer's words in her head.
Last night had been the one time every week a lot of the top government officials talked to the citizens of Gaia. They answered questions involved improving housing conditions, but they also socialized with the Gaians to show that they weren't high and mighty. PQ had gone last night, and had asked him if they were going to officially employ and more robots in any government building. She had even gone as far as asking if robots would ever rebel. His words had been simple.
The robots don't need to rebel. They just need to be loved.
Kicking a garlic plush off the windowsill in frustration, PQ wrapped her arms around herself tightly. It was a hard thing to process, despite the easy concept. She knew that they needed to be loved. PQ loved all robots....some like sisters and brothers...some more than others...She shook her head out of the developing thought. There was a robot that no matter how much love she showed him, he never seemed to even acknowledge it.
Her eyes drifted to the box her "niece" Hakobe had given her with the wrench inside. He had given her that box as a gift, a reminder....but of what?
PQ didn't realize she was crying until Retrostcja hopped up on the windowsill and nudged her bare leg gently. She had gotten halfway into her pajamas before her mind had drifted, and she sat in only her undergarments and night cap. Looking down PQ saw the Bludeau plushie in Retro's mouth. Reaching down she took it and cuddled it like a small child would. Retrostacja moved closer and laid on her lap, watching his owner cautiously.
A protest would have been easier. To give citizens information and try to change their minds politically was so much easier than what she knew she had to do. Instead of changing people's minds....she had to change their hearts. And PQ wasn't prepared for that kind of letdown should she fail.
Reaching down, she scratched Retro's ear as she tried to collect herself. But she kept crying, her static becoming a pale blue as a sob wracked her body. She didn't know if she could handle having her heart broken every time her attempts to make people love the robots would fall through. She thought she could do this diplomatically, with logic and reasoning. But she knew that she had to put her entire self and more into what needed to be done.
She needed someone to talk to, but couldn't get herself to move off the windowsill. The cyborg had yet to cry in this new body and she suddenly felt even more foreign than she could ever remember. Her body shook slightly as she leaned her head back, trying to gather her breath. How she wanted to talk to Willamena, who had no doubt dealt with heartbreak in her centuries of life in an immortal body. But someone else's name came to mind, and it made her cry all the more. The woman who she thought had been her best friend saw the wrong side of what PQ was trying to do. And now she felt as if the two of them were standing on opposite sides of a battlefield PQ never wanted to be in.
"Oh, Gera...." she whispered to herself before another cry broke her off. How could Gera not see that she didn't want to hurt anyone? Especially now, since she needed to deal with people's hearts instead of their heads. But how could she try and prove herself, when her friend had such a strong mindset? It was useless...
PQ sat on her windowsill past when the dawn emerged from the smog, crying herself to sleep before she could see the light.
