Canned Heat :: Down to your core 221 words
Sometimes there was really nothing left. Sometimes secrets and lies can't keep you company in the cold of the night and nothing seemed better than seeing the world through a smoked lens. Those days were supposed to be behind her. She was growing up, she had to take care of her sisters and brothers while her parents were away. But they sometimes got back at night. Then there was nothing left for her to do but...
But she felt rich when she put on her makeup. And she felt beautiful when she tied her golden halter top tight. And her sister would peer into the bathroom with big eyes and ask if she could come. Lex would smile and shake her head. It was so warm here.
But not warm enough. She needed to sweat, feel the heat of the dance floor melt away her sin. And she danced with her heels streaking the floor, friction causing an explosion. In the arms of the first person to catch her eye. Those were the nights she danced without secrets. The nights people could gossip about her for once.
As then she closed her eyes and danced. Just danced.

Sometimes they even finished each others...
He was perfect for her. Lex knew it. He would hold her hand to his lips and kiss it lightly, like a prince in a fairytale story. And that smile, it was shining. Like they were polished with ******** sunlight. He'd hold open doors and wrap his arms around her. And she'd laugh at his lamest jokes and cook him lunch. She'd walk arm and arm with him like they were crafted out of heaven, just for each other.
But Lex could do it better. Lex wanted her more. Sometimes Lex closed her eyes and imagined she was him, feeling the girl's hand grab hers. Touching her arm, tasting her lips. She was diving in feet first with her, letting the waters splash her face, without fear. She would do anything to try. She would do anything to collect all of the secrets on the girl, and rearrange them to create something new.
But nothing added up to nothing. And everything that was real was the boy and the girl, more and more in love with each day passing. So close, so perfect, so benign. So sickening and cold. Lex could only take shelter in her thoughts.
