These are my three drabbles for Mimi's challenge in LMM. Each drabble focuses on a different character at a different time of day, because it worked out really well that I had three characters and three time options. The titles are named after songs from their respective genres.
Morning :: Joey Title :: Corner of the Sky Word count :: 300
It was a cold day, dreary and rainy. Whatever happened to California sunshine? Whatever happened to it never being dreary in San Diego? Joseph Beckett did not exactly care. He only wanted to stay in bed. Saturday meant he could get away with things like this. He just wanted to lie there all day, sprawled out and listening to the sound of the rain. He didn’t feel like continuing his life until it was noon.
This had nothing to do with his love for sleep. In fact, he hated sleep. He loved to get up and cook breakfast for his sister and get ready for the day. He usually loved pulling open his curtains and letting the sun flood the room. And he would smile and sigh.
But today there was no sunshine. And, most importantly, he had a dream last night. Dreams were rare for Joey. He loved them, and savored in them. It was a pleasant one, at that. He was on his father’s boat, spending time with his sister. Sammy was the same as before She came along. Before Sammy began to question who she was. Whether she was really a she at all. And whether Sammy really had love in her heart.
Joey turned over in his bed, wishing for when things were simpler. His sister, or rather, brother didn’t know it yet, but Sammy was falling in love. And it would ruin everything. Mother Rhapsody, taking over the world, having everybody’s love, only for them, that would all be ruined. Just because of that girl with the brown pigtails.
Joey pulled his pillow over his head and slammed his eyes shut, pretending he wasn’t awake, playing his dream over again and again in his head. He was happy to waste away any morning like this.

Afternoon :: Lex Title :: Rumor Has It Word count :: 227
There were hundreds of them, as always. Filtering into her computers one by one. They were secrets and stories, lies and truths. Every single one of them were helping to paint a picture that no one else but she could see. She and whomever had the money to take a look.
This is how she wasted away every weekend, in front of her computers, filing away gossip over the weekend. Gossip was such an unsavory word. It really wasn’t like that at all. Okay, maybe it was. On the surface, all Alexis Carlisle did was sell secrets. But she also kept them. She also paid attention to people’s lives where no one else would.
She smiled and printed out a piece of paper that no one else could see. She filed it away in a folder that no one ever looked at. It was under a name that no one ever cared about. For they knew what this person did all day, she spied on others. She traced over the printing of her name on the smooth manila surface and shoved the paper of secrets in. Safe, so no one could see the real her.
And…
Wait. Ben Carpentier just went inside Julia’s house? Even though he was dating Trinia? Oh, this was going to be good…
She turned away from herself to face the screen.

Night :: Zander Title :: Scream, Aim, Fire Word count :: 259
There was a voice inside Zander’s head. And it told him what to do, what to say, and how to act. Fortunately, he was less insane than most people with voices in their head. In fact, he was perfectly stable.
Actually, that should have been the scariest part.
“We’re live with CANDii FM, this is your late night radio DJ, Bruce Crier,” he said into a microphone, with a voice and a confidence that was clearly not his own. It was smooth, friendly, demented and charming. And oddly enough, a tad bit British. That added to the charm factor, and to the rating.
The ladies eat Brits right up, the voice said to him matter-of-factly. Zander could tell that the b*****d was grinning. Whatever. Whatever helped push the music. And whatever made people listen. Zander played with the play list on the computer and dragged a few songs onto the queue. Special songs that would help move the night along.
Because the night was too young to waste away without hope. He had to have hope that tonight would be the night Mother Rhapsody would be his.
And not Scream’s. For once, Zander had to have something Scream couldn’t have. Scream had everything Zander wanted, and needed. Mother Rhapsody would not fall into this category.
“Shift switch Zander-Zi,” a voice said, breaking up his thoughts, “My time in the chair,” the boy then said, his voice changing into his own alter-ego.
Zander looked at the young man in front of him and simply smiled.
Scream couldn’t have that either.
