Surprisingly Wicca doesn’t have a founder. Wicca comes from the past of the earth, The Goddess, and from all who choose Wicca as their path. There is no one person who can be labeled the founder. There are many people who we can thank for brining Wicca out to the general public, making it so many can find a home with Wicca.
Wiccans have a variety of beliefs, it really depends one who they are and what deity worship. Most wiccans believe that there is a creative force that exists in the universe, which sometimes will be called ‘The One.’ But yet little is known about this force but there is one thing that is certain. ‘The One’ created the goddess and the god. These two deities are the basic aspect of ‘The One.’ They don’t exist some where in the world but they are the world. The goddess resides in the earth but mostly in the oceans, the moon, and certain animals. The god resides in the sun and animals that represent him. But of course Wiccans just don’t worship just those two. They worship other deities, such as the Greek or roman gods, any type of god or goddess, that they seek to worship.
Wiccans respect nature because they believe that every rock, tree, even a blade of grass has a spirit. Unlike Christians, Catholics, or any other religion that discriminate against ones sexual preferences, Wicca believes that the three main sexual orientations are accepted. You do not get held out of the reincarnation ritual if you are gay, lesbian, straight, or bisexual, you are treated just as equally as a straight Christian in Christianity.
Wiccans have a law. Its called The Three Fold law, this is where any good that you give to a person, that you randomly meet on the street, in your family, or some one you know and that good deed with return to you three fold.
The population of how many Wiccans there are is uncertain because many of them are afraid to come out about their religion, afraid of being wrongfully accused. But the ones that have came out when the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) called their homes including Pagans (just another type of Wicca). The grand total that was estimated was just about 750,000 people in 2001 alone.
Most teens are attracted to Wicca because of the following reasons: lack of sexist beliefs and practices, concern for the environment, public perception of Wicca, mortality, personal involvement, and lack of discrimination, flexibility, and quest for power. The main reason why Wiccans are now feeling more free to come out about their religion is because of the public perception has improved over the centuries.
In 1450 to 1792 corrupted religions rounded up innocent Wiccans and Pagans and burned them alive under wrongful persecutions. Over the next centuries, and is still happening today, the concept of evil and dangerous Wiccans are still preserved in children’s nursery rhymes and taught within those religions.
The number of deities to this religion is unknown because a Wiccan can worship more than the goddess and the god. If they really wanted to they could worship Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Isis, Ra, ect. It’s basically whom ever they want, there is no real restriction on whom or what they must worship.
The Wiccans sacred book, tome or what ever else you must call it, is what they write. There is a book called ‘The Book of Shadows’ unlike the show ‘Charmed’ this book does not hold spells but chants used to invoke the deities around them. There is also a book for herbs and plants that would show you which herb or plant is right for a certain ritual.
