Jay had the unfortunate luck of being in the room, talking to the king, when his dad made the attempt. In a nutshell, he murdered his father with his advanced training in the magic that was more destructive than constructive. He has since been a personal body guard of the king but just recently he left the kingdom to be a loner whom helped the innocent or weak.
