Omg. So i really liked the series finale but i was left feeling... well, unsatisfied. (as a zutarian, of course i was!) Now before all you Kataangers and Maiko-ers roll your eyes or look smug i just want to explain myself. 1. Throughout the whole finale (eps. 18-21) we see zuko and katara get closer than ever. Zuko even risked his own life to intercept that lightning aimed at Katara. The writers made it seem all epic and heroic when he risked his life for her. Especially throughout the whole 3rd season, they made it seem as if Katara's feelings were very important to Zuko and that Katara was trying to get over her feelings of hurt and betrayal by zuko. Why was she so upset when he betrayed them at the end of season 2? 2. in previous eps. Zuko did everything he could to help Katara find her mother's killer. did he do it out of empathy because of his own mother? possibly. But why was he trying so hard to get on Katara's good side? Why should he care about what she thinks of him? 3. Why did he specifically pick Katara for the fight against Azula? Why not Toph, or Sokka, or Suki? 4. Was it just me or was the whole kissing scene between Katara and Aang just really random? Throughout the whole series Katara never once looked happy about being kissed by Aang, just surprised and then ashamed/guilty. So why the sudden "omg aang let's make out before the credits roll!" ????? 5. I'm sorry, Mai and Zuko????!?!?! No. just.....no. NO no no no. She never acted like she cared about zuko. Whenever he tried to explain what he was feeling, Mai totally blew him off. Sure they were gf/bf but they never acted like they really cared. Yeah, it was cool when Mai took the risk of saving him. big deal. I think she liked zuko but i think she was just sick of Azula's snotty attitude. 6.Why did the writers put so much action between Zuko and Katara if it was going nowhere? There was a developing relationship there and he saved her life and she saved his and they were crying and it was all zutara mushy-ness, and then all of sudden it was like "Mai! My bitchy ex-girlfriend! Let's get back together!" and "Oh aang! you're like, 12, and i've only acted like a mother to you, but hey let's makeout and end the show!" 7. i want all of you to note, I AM NOT ENTIRELY AGAINST KATAANG. I just think that their relationship was too sudden. She seemed all about Zuko and didn't know how she felt about Aang, and got really close to Zuko, and then BAM! Kissy kissy! I would have been fine with the kataang ending if they had developed the serious part of their relationship more (like not having Katara be all avoiding him and all like 'i don't know, aang') and if Zuko hadn't gotten back together with Mai. I was TOTALLY and COMPLETELY against THAT particular pairing from the start. *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh* I don't care. I will NOT accept this finale as the real ending. The whole kataang thing was too random. Zuko and Katara had something there. The writer's themselves made sure of that...
