Epitaph of the Beginning
In the beginning, only the six creators existed. They were Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light, and Darkness. From nothing they raised a world lost to us, the First Earth, a world with Magic and filled with the mystical. Earth raised the great mountains while Wind shaped them into the land. Water made the great seas rise to fill the chasms left by Wind’s carving. Fire gave the land life by creating the magma that would allow the land to shift. Light granted the world the ability to see while Darkness gave them a time into which to rest their mortal bodies.
Once the world had been brought forth, the Creators sought to populate the world. Earth carved the Dwarves from stone; Water raised the Elves from the graceful river, Fire made Men and Women by forging the fire of their hearts and soul, and Wind created the Centaurs that are strong and as fast as a mighty storm. Those four elements also created creatures that follow more than one elemental path such as the dragons, sea serpents, phoenixes, and the chimeras. They also created the creatures that are as ordinary to us as sunlight.
Light and Darkness did not create any of the creatures. They gave the world order. The created the minds of the sentient races and the instincts of the animal races. They created evolution, adaptation, learning, survival instincts, and every part of the mind. Light gave the world gifts such as Magic and skills to survive Darkness’ gift of challenge and disaster.
The Creators knew that they could not stay in the world they created. However they couldn’t leave the world unattended. To maintain their world they created the Order of the Ancients and the Dark Monarchy. The order oversaw the world and maintained creation while the Dark Monarchy oversaw the souls of the dead and prevented destruction from overrunning the world.
At first this worked and for a while it was a golden age. Alas it was to end when the Order of the Ancients decided to overthrow the Dark Monarch and control both creation and destruction. The Creators caught word of this they were infuriated. They then created the Order of the Twilight, a third order to prevent the Light and the Darkness from controlling each other.
That was the First Great War. Many warriors from all sides were slain. The rivers ran blood and the sky was an apocalyptic black. It seemed that it would never end. However Twilight was victorious and peace returned. It was thought that the peace would never end.
As time went on, the creatures of the world kept evolving, becoming stronger and faster. The sentient races studied Magic and furthered it into a powerful tool that could be used for almost anything. Animals became more like the sentient races, thinking out plans to catch their prey instead of attacking on impulse. However the Twilight thought these changes were a dreadful omen and warned the Creators. They were worried that the world order would soon be shattered.
The Second Great War began just as suddenly as the first war. To combat the now extremely powerful lesser races, the Creators created an entirely new race, a race known as the Sentient Beast, the Half-Dragons. They were a race that could use magic unlike any Man or Elf and were as strong as 100 dragons. This new race decimated the uprising, but all had almost been lost.
The Order of the Twilight and the Creators decided the only way to prevent another great war was to the separate the innovative mind of the sentient races from the power of Magic. This way, no race could gain enough power to challenge the Creators and the World Order ever again. They did not want to do this, but it was necessary to protect the world. They took their world and split it apart. Then a barrier was erected that would hide the worlds from each other. That is how it has been since then. The Creators wept as they gazed upon the world they had created only to have nearly destroy it. _____________________________________________________________________ This is my personal favorite literary work I have ever done. I also think this is the most thought out fictional writing I have ever written. It goes with my RPC, Ryair, as sort of a prequel to the events of his story.
