I ran as quickly as I could, I swear it. I ran and I ran, but it was too late. She looked back at me one last time, and she smiled. Her smile seemed to speak, as it always does. It's okay, Lionel. But it's not, I know. I reached out for her arm, trying to pull her away from the other hand reaching for her, but she turned away from me so I couldn't see her face. Tears filled my eyes, and as a small droplet of crystal-clear water fell to the ground, I knew they filled hers, too. Everything blurred, and she held out her hand to the one reaching for her, the dark hand of Death. I cried out in fear as my hand grasped air and her soul so clearly left her body. Her soul turned to me once more before she left, and she smiled the saddest smile I'd ever seen. A ghostly tear fell from her face, into my hand. She turned from me and left, not looking back. I might have cried, but I didn't want my tears to mingle with the one I had in my hand. It crystalized in my palm, becoming a warm diamond. I held it tightly and turned to Eric and Juniper, who were staring at me and waiting. They knew what I'd say, but still they waited. I didn't know what to say to make it all better. "I'm so sorry," I whispered. Eric ran to her body and clutched her hand. Juniper grabbed my shoulders and shook me. "Tell me it's not true! She can't be...!" I touched one of her hands with one of mine. "I really am sorry, Juniper, Eric. Bianca's dead." Juniper's eyes changed from blazing to wounded. She looked at me as if she were a puppy and I'd just whipped her. Then she let out a cry and ran to Bianca in horror. "It can't be true! You're lying! You're lying, Lionel!!" She cried and cried and cried. Eric began to sob quietly. I stared down at the little diamond in my palm, at Bianca's crystal tear. It glowed in the sunlight. The weather had been warm, but the tension and death had made it stone-cold. I clutched the diamond tightly and turned around. "Get a move on," I snapped. "Do you think she'd like it if we just sat around here? We have to get home." Juniper whirled to me, her red eyes appearing to be full of flame, of hatred. "What, and just leave her here? Are you crazy, Lionel? Don't you care about Bian-" "I tried, okay?!"" I shouted. "I tried. Do you think I didn't? Bianca was brave. She died so we could go home. Is that the extent of your feelings for her, to have an opportunity to leave this place and to just throw it away because blood was spilled for it?" I glared at Juniper, angry that she'd accuse me of not caring about my partner. "She wanted us to have this opportunity. Is she so little to you, that her death would all be for nothing? She wouldn't have died if it weren't for us. So hurry up, or I'll leave you here for the crows." I turned on my heel and walked into the tunnel of time and space, then turned my head slightly to see if they'd follow. They did, looking back at Bianca. She never did want a funeral... all she wanted was to have life around her. In a forest, she'd have plenty of that. The tunnel was suffocating, but it got us back. I soon found myself in the backyard of my home. I looked at the diamond again and swore to myself that I'd never part with it. I whispered a small "goodbye" into the stone and tucked it into my pocket. "So what now, Lionel?" Eric asked. I sighed and held my stone up to the sun. It glittered a thousand different colors at once. "Now we remember."
