The Zodiac Animals Buddhist Partons.
I'm putting this up because I found it earlier today and I was curious to find that people born under the zodiac had Buddhist protectors. ( Not that I'm a believer in the religon. I'm just a nosey person on religion I guess you could say. mrgreen I found it funny that my parents zodiac patrons symbolized things they didn't have. I'll tell you more about it later on. ) By the way, this info is from this same site, so if you want to check out the deities in detail; please be my guest.
So, lets start with a list of the zodiac and their patrons. Oh, and for some reason there is only eight partons that protect the 12 zodiac. No one's sure why that is.

Zodiace Animal: Rat
Buddhist Patron:Senju Kannon (or Kannon Bosatsu) - Goddess of Compassion. This patron is defined neither/both male or female really, and so it's kinda confusing. The patron is the protector of people when they are in distress and so changes her form in a way that will help the person in distress. In Chinese history, people have recorded this particular patron changing form 33 times. ( no one knows why they or she chose the number thirty-three.) There are six basic forms for Kannon; one for each level of Existence. Sanju is the thousand-armed Kannon, who helps hungry ghosts.
Year of the Rats: 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996

Zodiac Animal:Ox and Tiger
Buddhist Patron: Kokuzo Bosatsu - The Deity of Wisdom and Memory. ( Some artists in asian culture worship this god to help with their works of art.) Ok, so this is my mothers zodiac patron, but the funny thing is: She's got the worst memory in the world. rofl I know, sad. Anyway, this parton symbolizes " vast and boundless " wisdom of the universe and is also the " bestower of wishes" and is ofter shown holding a lotus stem with a wish-fulling gem.
1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997

Zodiace Animal: Rabbit ( one of the lucky zodiac animals that doesn't share a patron)
Buddhist Patron: Monju Bosatsu - Buddhist of Law. Monju is the wisest of the Buddha because Monju is the personification of Buddhas teachings. Many students pay homage to Monju in hopes of passing examinations and do well in calligraphy. Normally seen sitting on a roaring lion, which represents the voice of buddhist law. (kinda redundant if you ask me...)
1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999

Zodiac Animal: Dragon and Snake
Buddhist Patron: Fugen Bosatsu - The Great Conduct. This is another funny one because my dad doesn't have a lot of patience. In anycase, this parton teaches diligent practice of the buddhist teaching, patience, and devotion. He teaches the buddhist to become detached from the six senses and is usually seen riding an elephant, which represents "overcoming all obstacles."
1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000

Zodiac Animal: Horse (another lucky one)
Buddhist Partron: Seishi Bosatsu - A patron of wisdom and is the right hand attendent to Amida Buddha. ( Amida's left hand is Kannon) Seishi isn't very popular, and so not much is said on this parton, other than he's your regular buddha deity who has great strength and wisdom.
1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002

Zodiac Animal: Sheep and Monkey
Buddhist Parton: Dainichi Nyorai - This Buddha had many names: All-Encompassing Buddha, Great Buddha, Cosmic Buddha, etc. It represents the center or zenith of the universe and is described as the ' all-seeing buddha' because it is supposed to be everywhere. Dainichi is the only buddha who wears jewlery and is always in the center of mandalas surrounded by the four Buddhas of the compass.
1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003

Zodiac Animal: Rooster
Buddhist Patron: Fudo Myo-o - Myo-o are war-like beings who represent the wisdom of the Buddha. Fudo Myo-o and Aizen Myo-o are called the ' Two Knowledge Kings' who together form Dainichi Nyorai. Well, when they're together they ARE Dainichi, so to speak. ( weird to think of...) They are able to form Dainichi because Fudo represents the Diamond World which is the spirit, mind, and subjective wisdom (that's why he's a buddhist parton and Aizen is not), because Aizen represents the Womb World which is the elements (fire, earth, space, etc.) and objective truth.
1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005

Zodiac Animal: Dog and Boar
Buddhist Parton: Amida Nyorai - This Buddha has many names too: Buddha of Infinite Light and Life, Lord of the Beyond and the Afterlife, and Lord of Gokuraku. (who ever or what ever that is...) This Buddha is all about the afterlife; when a buddhist follower dies, he is said to walk down from the Western Pure Land and take the follower back to the Pure Land with him.
1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006

Well, that's your info, and I know most of it is about the Buddhist religion, but it still didn't stop me from being curious as to what the eastern side of the world's culture was like. I'm still a devoted Christian all the same. ^ ^ Thanks for reading.
