This past weekend, I visited the Rocky Neck State Park in CT, about two hours from where I live. It was VERY nice. I think the water there is the clearest you can get without any volcanic involvement. The non-beach areas within the park were beautiful as well.
Notable sightings:
--a striped bass (20"-25" in length) swimming by my leg. The water was only up to my mid-thigh or so. WTF? Aren't these supposed to live in deeper sea?
--quite a few hermit crabs. Actually caught one in my shoe (and released it back, of course).
--small crabs on the ocean floor. I wanted to catch them, too, but I was afraid they might pinch me. Apparently this park is a popular crabbing area?
--3-4 of... what might have been an ugly species of sea anemone. Kinda looked like this, only smaller (no larger than several inches in diameter) and with different proportions -- the "tentacles" were longer in proportion with the overall diameter. DISGUSTING looking things. SCARY. crying
--a somewhat large conch, alive.
I ate at a very good Italian restaurant within walking distance from my lodging place. :9~~~ Definitely visiting again next year.
I feel tired yet rejuvenated! Hopefully this will help me get back into doing stuff... e.g. update my comic ...
