Sleeping Children
Lord help the child who screams each night,
Tossing and turning with inescapable fright.
Trying to leave the past behind,
Unable to forget the memories in his mind.
Lord help the child who has been abused,
Lied to and spied on, molested and misused.
Trying to escape in the deeps of night,
Sleeping and sleeping, trying to escape his fright.
Lord help the child who lives in a dream,
Unable to sleep, his eyes lose their gleam.
Trying to escape the nightmares that dare,
Sleeping while awake, he's neither here nor there
