Ok, the story started out at my cousin's old house in Lakeside. My cousin Laura now lives at my grandparents house, but anyway we went to my aunt's house in celebration for Laura's graduation. Yes, she's 18, and she was home schooled. Anywho, we were talking about where we would want to go if we were to take a road trip this summer. My 2nd Aunt comes up to us and tells us about this book she has about weird places in California, and what do you know, it's called Weird California. She then told us about this haunted tree nearby called the Screaming Tree. We later asked one of our other aunts about it and they told us at night you go down this road to a tree, a unique tree, and honks 3 times and wait a while. Eventually, you will hear the scream of a girl who was supposeably hung there many years ago. Our trip started because my cousin got a handheld GPS for her graduation and we wanted to test it out. We first went a couple of other places and eventually ended up at Barnes & Noble. We checked out the book our aunt told us about and found the Screaming Tree in Lakeside. It told us the whole story behind it and where and how to find it. It's supposeably at the end of Willow Road. We then decided that Laura and I would take at most 2 friends each and see if the legends were true. She asked her friend Marsela if she could come. She said yes of course and we went to pick her up. I then asked my friend Lena if she would come as well. She couldn't, something about it being too late or something. We then headed out on our "adventure" using the GPS system to get us to the street. We evetually found the street, Willow Road, and headed down it. We didn't know where the tree was thought because there was no specific address. We drove down the road for a while, our hearts already pumping. We eventually got to a dirt road and continued down it. Laura has a small car, so it didn't take the bumps so well. We were alone, and it was dark. 8:50 pm to be exact. My cousin turned on her brights so we would see. Marsela and I were worried about the tree and ghosts while Laura was being logical and worrying if a car would follow us and rape us or something. I was just about to head into the back seat with Marsela because she didn't want to be alone, however, Laura told us to stop and be quiet. Sure enough, Laura saw a car coming up behind us and of course, she started freaking out. She drove for a while but she eventually let the car pass her just to make sure it really wasn't following us. We drove for a bout 3 more minutes before we decided: It was too dark, we couldn't see anything, and we didn't know how far the road went. We eventually turned around, and started heading back home, our "adventure" to be continued. Those weren't the only reasons we went home though. Me, I was scared that: someone was gonna jump out infront of us, the tree would scream, and we would see a ghost. Laura was scared that: A guy would follow us and rape us. And Marsela was scared that: our tires would pop from the dirt road, or some guy would jump infront of our car. We told each other that we would come another day, during the day so we could see the tree and see how far down it was then maybe wait or come back later. Plus, we would maybe take some guys with us to calm us down. During the entire drive back, Laura and Marsela kept saying how they thought they saw someone or something either on the side of the road or up on the rocks on the hill next to the road. That just made my heart beat faster. We were also going to ask the people at the Circle K if they knew anything but, we didn't. I know this isn't that mcuh of a story because we didn't actually see the tree or hear anything, but the trip let alone scared us. If any of my friends( you know who you are) want to maybe come next time, then ask me. It probably will be sometime this summer again.
