Were there any inconsistencies you found in Star Trek that bugged you? That you found funny? Or really pissed you off? Any nitpicky things you noticed that just bothered you? What were they?

Yeah.

In DS9, the stars in Sisko's office moved from right to left very slowly to indicate the station's rotation to keep the artifical gravity online, but when you were in the habitat ring, the stars didn't move.

On VGR, Janeway's Ready Room & the Conference Lounge had huge windows, however, things that should've been visible (like ships) were never visible unless it was a close-up of the windows. Only planets seemed to be visible, and again, only when Janeway sat on the bloody couch!

The NextGen Enterprise crew was supposed to be fantastic,
but the Federation's flagship often had crew that didn't act it.

We had scenes like Security taking someone into custody,
but they are scripted to pause, while a dramatic interruption
comes up on the viewscreen.
Apparently, Security is to take someone immediately into custody,
except when something really interesting is onscreen. xd

Let's not even get into all the times the actors hit the combadges-
or forgot to hit their combadges-at the wrong times. xd

But, I love the mind-reading doors everyone had. smile

Yeah, what was up with the doors. A person approaching them, the door would open, but if someone wanted to make a dramatic pause in front of them, they didn't open...And how the hell do commabadges work?! *rips out hair and then a dramatic pause ensues*

Oh, yeah, those are two things I refuse to analise... they can cost more than one headache.

Well, one that really pisses me off was in Voyager when Kes got all that information about the Krennim (Year of Hell people, right?) when she was going backwards in time and then when she left the show, everybody just rather inconveniently forgot. stressed They could've worked it in somehow.

The doors are equipped with sensors that detect dramatic pauses.

Actual electronic doors, btw, would have been a nightmare with all the
"pauses, turns, makes a snappy final comment, THEN exits the
still-open door" scenes in the series'.

The doors have eventually been accepted among Nitpickers as the
"TRTS" nit- "They Read The Script" and that's how they know when to
close.
That also explains how sometimes Sisko's office has people barrel in
and the doors automatically open rather than wait for him to let
them in. smile
Then again, he might actually have some sort of sensor that scans people
and he's set it to let in the senior staff or something.

The combadges, incidentally, were the reason the Nitpickers Guild
was formed. Phil Farrand saw Wesley respond to Beverly, finish a
conversation, NOT tap his combadge, and mutter
" *snorts* parents!"
Uh, doesn't that mean he didn't "hang up" and she heard him?

For me, the obvious one was when Picard was in the court case with
Ardra over the "Devil's Deal" one planet made.
Picard says that the Enterprise has been monitoring them on his
combadge all along. He then TAPS the combadge and addresses the
Enterprise. They hear him.
Um, if his badge was ON all this time, he just turned it OFF when he
tapped it-but they heard him! I actually expected them not to respond.

Maybe the commbadge was only active one way. It is a two-way communication device, it stands to reason that, it's possible to have the commbadge active only one way (via the ship opening a channel to it) and then by tapping it, Picard activated his end, making it a two-way communication.

As for how people could respond without tapping it...I'm at a loss.

the ships intercom and the badges were linked and seperate.... you use the badges to activate the ships intercom while on the ship and not on the ship they go directly.... i guess.

What's funny is that there are people on the set who open and close the doors at the right time. But sometimes they get it wrong or they space out or something, and the actor expects the door to be open, and they'll either run into it or get smashed in the door. xd

Maybe personal quarters won't let anybody in without permission and Sisko's office will. So maybe the people who wait until he says they can come in are just being polite. 3nodding Or maybe Sisko's office just doesn't lock. sweatdrop

How about all the people that died on Voyager. They were likely to be forgotten, unless there was an episode around their character. (the one with the dead girl who was transformed into another alien but came back to voyager, or the one with the docter's dilemma about who he had to save, Kim or another Girl (they even celebrated her birthday).

The thing I hate the most is when like three people are going on an away mission, let's say, two main characters and someone unknown. You just know the unknown person is going to die... That disturbs me...

Actually, Voyager was the only episode where that didn't happen as often as it had on DS9 and TNG and TOS. Mostly because Voyager couldn't afford to continually lose crewmembers. There was only a crew of 150 total, which after 7 years had dropped to about 142, meaning 8 people died in 7 years. I'm sure if we compared that to TOS, TNG, and DS9, all three would have almost double or triple that many.

Really? Only 8 people? I seem to remember more people dying than that! sweatdrop

Nope. They had a lot of injuries. Plus, you have to factor in timelines that stopped existing. So, in reality, Voyager only lost 8 people total during it's transit through the Delta Quadrant.
