I thought I'd just post this up here...and I'd like to know...

1) What is "fluff" and a "fluff bunny", exactly?
2) Where/when did these terms come from?
3) Okay, I'm new. How can I tell the difference between substance and fluff without being stabbed by a non-fluff?
4) Any methods for prevention?

As or the where or when, who knows. But I imagine it came about because of all the people who think thier religions are nothing but sunshine and fluffy clouds and no arguing or killing or eating meat or anything

I think this is where the term Fluff Bunny came from:

No-one will attack you for fluffiness if you ask questions, read and keep an open mind. Fluffyness isn't ignorance, its having a closed mind and refusing to learn from others

Gods, I feel so old for knowing this... gonk

The term came from the wannabe's. They liked to dress up in dark clothes and wear...get this... FLUFFY backpacks. Fashion... pah... stare

Well, that was the reason in the Netherlands anyway. sweatdrop

well, back in 1990 or so, our gaming group coined the term and when we got online it seemed appropriate.

The "fluffs" in the D&D game were those who were very innocent, who spent their time chasing the shiny things, the useless things, the "fluffy" things like flowers, puffballs, clouds, who wouldn't and couldn't see that they were aabout to run off a cliff chasing the butterfly. We even have a spell to use on them, "Flesh to Plush", turning them into a plushie statue of them, complete with a reversal spell "Plush to Flesh". And let me tell you there is NOTHING worse than a giant bear you used as a pillow coming to life and attacking you....

Anyhow, all of us were involved in some level of the occult. So when the same kinds of people started showing up in the communities, we naturally started using the term to apply to them. Even tried using the spells on them, but since it was reality they didn't work too well.

Most notably, the "fluffs" of the metaphysical community are the kinds who are absolutely convinced the universe wants to take care of us, if only we live in cosmic harmony. If only we understood the grand design (and I'm omitting the capitals on purpose), then Mankind would be so much better and happier....

Never realizing that simple observable nature shows that the universe tends toward chaos rather than lollipops.

"fluffy bunnies" came about when it was pointed out that these peole tend to be the same ones who buy the chicks and baby rabbits for Ostara (Easter) and then who don't have the courage to cook them for the pot when they get big enough, they just abandon them at shelters or out in a field.

Basic research will prevent most of the problems of fluffiness. If you know the basics of your religion, if you know basic history and basic mythology, asking questions of substance will prevent 99% of the problems you might run into.

Instead of asking if you can cast a Circle in your home, if you ask if it really matters if you go deosil or widdershins (and then saying "this author says this and this other author says that and this source says something else and i'm confused") will generally get intelligent answers.

Please note, i say "generally" because there will still be those aholes who insist on bashing everyone they can.

I have several articles I wrote on this topic. One has been called the article everyone should read to check and see if they are fluffy....
